MedStar Health Research Institute
Healthcare - Health Services
MedStar Health Research Institute provides scientific, administrative and regulatory support for research programs throughout MedStar Health. These programs complement the key clinical services and teaching programs in all nine hospitals in the MedStar Health system and the communities we serve.
MedStar Health is a not-for-profit, regional healthcare system with nine hospitals and more than 20 other health-related services in the Maryland and Washington, D.C., region. More than a half-million patients trust their care to MedStar Health each year.
MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI) is the research center of MedStar Health, the Baltimore/Washington area's largest health care delivery system. The purpose of the Institute is to conduct and support medical research that results in better treatments and prevention strategies for the major diseases affecting the communities we serve. The Baltimore Business Journal has named MedStar Health one of the “Best Places to Work.”
The MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI) supports many research centers that conduct basic and translational research across the MedStar Health system. Our investigators are involved in pre-clinical investigation, investigator-initiated studies, early phase I/II clinical trials, large phase III multi-center trials, and test the clinical application of new advances in clinical practice. MHRI is an ideal organization for investigating healthcare delivery and outcomes research in tertiary-, specialty-, and community-based hospital settings. As the largest healthcare provider in the mid-Atlantic region, the MedStar Health System is located in one of the most culturally diverse regions of the United States.
As a result of its work with these diverse populations, MHRI understands the importance of - and is skilled at adapting its research and interventions to - the culture of the people they serve. Historically, our organization has led the country in the recruitment of minority participants for NIH-sponsored, multi-center, clinical trials. Our investigators are highly skilled and experienced at serving as national resources for health researchers and policymakers concerned about the health problems of cultural and ethnic minorities, women, and the disabled.
And, complimentary to its research expertise, MHRI's research centers are staffed with board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified diabetes educators, registered dietitians, medical technicians, and registered nurses. MHRI's staff members offer extensive expertise and experience in conducting research and providing high-quality care.
Core Scientific Services
MHRI's Multidisciplinary Core Services function to support investigators as an interdisciplinary resource. Each of the cores can be accessed by investigators either by individual core or as part of a multidisciplinary effort. For core projects needing a multidisciplinary effort, a Scientific Advisory Panel will review the proposed project and provide investigators with guidance on how use of the other cores within the facility might enhance their research projects.
