Dignity Health - Mercy General Hospital

It was more than a century ago that the Sisters of Mercy broke ground on Sacramento’s first private hospital, Mater Misericordiae (Latin for "Mother of Mercy"). The hospital – one of the most modern, best-equipped hospitals in California at the time – operated at 23 rd and R streets until 1925, when the Sisters opened Mercy General Hospital at 40th and J Streets.
For more than 100 years, Mercy General Hospital, Sacramento, has carried on its founding Sisters' Tradition of healing with compassion. Our vital statistics-343 beds, 1900 employees, 360 active medical staff, and 17,250 patients admitted annually-speak to our strength and presence in the community. We're proud to be regarded as one of the area's most comprehensive and accomplished medical centers. We're also proud of the recognition our teams have received in the wider world. Since 1997, we've earned a spot on three prestigious 100 Top Hospitals lists: Top 100 Hospitals, National Benchmarks for Success; 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals; 100 Top Hospitals: Regional Benchmarks for Success. And the 2004 HealthGrades annual hospital report card ranked Mercy General Hospital as the best place in California for cardiac surgery. Our Hometown
As the fastest growing metropolitan area in the country and capital of the world's fifth largest economy, Sacramento is a dynamic city offering a wealth of cultural, economic and recreational possibilities. TIME magazine just recognized Sacramento as the most diverse city in the country for 2003.
Sacramento's mild climate is an ideal backdrop for enjoying the city's many attractions, which include shopping, restaurants, golf courses and the Sacramento Zoo. Sacramento hosts the 2003 NBA Western Division Champion Sacramento Kings as well as the AAA 2003 Pacific Coast League Champion Sacramento River Cats. Further, Sacramento is home to some 40 art galleries and dozens of museums including the world-renowned Crocker Art Museum. Old Sacramento, a 28-acre town of historic buildings, museums and monuments, preserves a Gold Rush ambiance with wooden sidewalks, horse-drawn carriages and Mississippi-style riverboats.

What's more, situated midway between the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east and the Pacific coast to the west, Sacramento is the ideal starting place for a sweeping array of adventures. Mountain skiing, hiking, and camping, San Francisco attractions, coastal beaches and the rich Napa Valley are yours to discover, all within an easy two-hour drive.

Clinical Educator for Critical Care
Mercy Hospital, Bakersfield & Mercy Southwest Hospital

Core values that include integrity and trust provided me with the confidence to relocate my family from the Midwest to Bakersfield and Mercy Hospital.
My initial interview with the critical care staff painted a picture of an ICU that continues to hold true today. We are a busy, high acuity unit that cares for a wide variety of Critically Ill patients. The demands on expertise are significant, our patients and families need us. As a team we count on each other. Our goals are set high, and "Nursing care will be the best".

Support isn't only among each other. Through collaboration with hospital Administration, management, medical staff, and ancillary departments, our goals are established and met one at a time. I can honestly say the care givers at Mercy are not forgotten.

After a 12 hour shift in ICU, I'm ready to return home to focus on other things. The other things include my wife and daughter. We spend our evening planning our next weekend trip. Will it be the mountains, the canyon, the beach, LA, San Francisco, San Diego, or even Las Vegas. We know that they are all only a few hours away. Or maybe we will stay in the community enjoying our life in Southern California.
