Hospital Administrator Chosen for Fellowship at University of Pennsylvania
Phoenixville Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Sally Strzelecki, EdD, RN, CNAA recently attended the 2006 Johnson & Johnson Wharton Fellows Program in Management for Nurse Executives at the University of Pennsylvania. As one of forty chosen applicants to this highly competitive program, Dr. Strzelecki had the opportunity to represent Phoenixville Hospital among an exceptionally qualified group of nursing executives from throughout the United States and around the world.
Regarded as the leading program of its’ kind, the three-week program featured seminars, workshops, and computer simulations to teach various strategic, financial, managerial, and leadership approaches to enhancing quality patient care. Participants learned new ways of thinking about the process of change in the health care industry, as well as effective methods to handle these changes. The seminar was designed to better equip nursing executives with the tools necessary to improve their financial planning and budgeting, systems thinking, managing complexity and leading organizational change, negotiation strategies, marketing and consumer satisfaction all in an attempt to ultimately improve the quality of patient care. “This was a very intense three weeks, and I was challenged to identify new and innovative ways of looking at issues that come up in health care everyday,” said Sally, “I am exited to bring these new skills back to the Hospital and plan to share what I’ve learned with my fellow administrators and nursing colleagues.”
“To have Phoenixville Hospital represented at such a prestigious and important worldwide conference is very exciting,” said Steve Tullman, CEO. “Sally has been with Phoenixville Hospital for 40 years and her work here has been invaluable to our development. Her devotion to continually expanding her education through programs such as the Wharton Fellows Program has allowed us to continue to improve the quality of our patient care.”
Sally has been the CNO since 2004. She received her undergraduate degree from West Chester University, both a Masters of Education and a Doctorate in Education from Temple University, as well as a Masters in Business Administration from West Chester University.
