    Swing This: Wellness Through Music

Garden City--Seniors across New York are invited to tap their feet to the sounds of Blues and Jazz music on April 18 at 10 a.m. at the Performing Arts Center at York College, according to Adam Berman, special events director for HealthCare Partners.

The free program will feature the music of the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band which is dubbed as the world’s most authentic swing band by industry music buffs. For more information about the program and to make reservations, call 800-501-1799.

In addition to HealthCare Partners, a healthcare delivery system who empowers senior members through health, wellness, and social programs, other event sponsors include New York City Councilman Leroy Comrie, American Diabetes Association, Jamaica Hospital and Health Insurance Plan of New York (HIP).

“Music is powerful medicine,” stated Berman who has organized numerous listening events and dances across greater New York City and Long Island. “It just seems to get the blood flowing and improves the quality of life for seniors who participate in these events.”

Berman stated that a special feature of the concert will include health education materials distributed by the American Diabetes Association which highlights the benefits of staying active and involved.

“This will be a real treat for seniors to have an opportunity to hear such an incredible musical group,” concluded Berman.

Founded in 1973, the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band have performed at Lincoln Center in NYC, the Ordway Theater in Minnesota, countless Jazz Festivals and well as many venues in Europe.
