History

Prior to 1960, caring for seniors was regulated to County Poor Farms, mental institutions, sanitariums and small, for-profit “mom and pop” organizations. With no regulation or licensing systems, care for seniors was substandard at best. In 1960, five area ministers found this lack of proper care for the elderly appalling. In response, they formed a corporation dedicated to creating a non-profit facility that would provide elderly persons with housing facilities and services specifically designed to meet their physical, social and psychological needs. This facility became Lakeview Village and opened its doors to its residents on December 14, 1963.

Lakeview’s first building (now Heritage Place) had 201 apartment homes and a nursing care center. This unheard of concept in senior care was in such demand that by the mid 60’s, Lakeview began construction on 75 garden cottages. Over the next 47 years, Lakeview continues the advancement of senior care with new ideas such as LifeCare and Whole-Person Wellness while adding three more high-rises, duplexes, villa homes, Sub-Acute Rehabilitation and its award winning, skilled nursing care facility at Centerpointe.
