GATE Program
Gateway to Attaining Technical Experience (GATE) Program

Since its introduction, Eastridge’s GATE Program, short for Gateway to Attaining Technical Experience, has provided customized screening and training for the biotech and biomedical manufacturing industries.

The program works on a simple idea—training a job candidate makes for a better employee. Workers are taught the manufacturing skills needed for success on day one of their jobs, which include positions in assembly, production, inspection and machine operation. Since the technical training for candidates is provided prior to placement, employers don’t even have to pay the training costs.

A certified instructor provides instruction over a 4-hour period during which workers are trained and assessed on the following:

• Lean systems including 5S
• Quality standards including GMP and FDA
• Following SOPs and visual diagrams
• Quality inspection including microscope use
• Assembly with focus on dexterity and speed
• Best practices for developing a career in manufacturing

The results speak for themselves.

Candidates who completed GATE training saw their hire rate jump from 60% to 92%. GATE decreased new associate training by up to 50% while doubling production output in 12.5% less time. Perhaps most astonishing, the GATE Program increased worker retention by a whopping 300%.

Beyond these social and professional benefits, the GATE Program contributes to good business. As the statistics illustrate, employers find GATE-trained workers better equipped to tackle the challenges of the work environment. And, Eastridge, the staffing provider sponsoring GATE, finds its payback with longer retention of contract employees and greater employment satisfaction.

Over 75 percent of GATE program participants are currently employed and working for Eastridge’s Light Industrial division clients. Others have joined Alere (formerly Biosite), an innovator in medical diagnostics. Those who have been placed receive wages up to 9 percent higher than competitive wages.

Originally launched in San Diego by Eastridge, the GATE Program has since expanded to serve Orange County job seekers.
