Job Description


The Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations of a comprehensive budget and supervise a financial staff including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue streams, and grants administration. The Controller will ensure that related entities have the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits. The Controller will work closely with program leaders and their staffs.  In addition, the Controller will partner with the leadership teams of related entities to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, and IT functions.



  • Supervise Finance Office staff. 
  • Serve as Treasurer or Assistant Treasurer for all entities.
  • Ensure development and maintenance of good internal controls for access to cash and other assets, receipt of revenues, recording and tracking contributions, authorization of and documentation of support for payroll and non-payroll disbursements and other key functions.  Policies and procedures should be standardized across related entities to the degree possible.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Review all accounting transactions processed by bookkeepers in order to ensure they are properly authorized and are recorded to facilitate both internal and external reporting needs.  Reconcile all significant general ledger accounts. 
  • Develop cash flow projections and liaise with all entities.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of related entities’ financial status.
  • Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and foundation grant requirements and guidelines.
  • Prepare program and financial reports for government and private grants.

Job Requirements



  • 7+ years accounting and finance.
  • 4-year degree required.
  • CPA highly preferred.
  • Experience in a complex nonprofit preferred.
  • Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
  • Downtown Houston location.
