Laboratory Supervisor (Healthcare Sciences)

Job Responsibilities

As a Laboratory Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising moderate and high complexity testing, analyzing, reviewing, and reporting test results and quality control results, as well as taking supervisory and remedial action when indicated. You will ensure specimen integrity by following proper procedures for specimen handling and processing, as well as adhering to policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, quality assurance, and safety. You will be managing and developing the hematology department as the Hematology Supervisor. The Hematology Supervisor will also be responsible for monitoring and directing department workflow to achieve department goals, recruitment, training, scheduling, employee relations and performance management.

Additional responsibilities of the Laboratory Supervisor include:

  • Following procedures for test analysis and reporting, and maintaining records of patient results
  • Understanding and operating test systems proficiently
  • Troubleshooting test systems and taking appropriate action where indicated
  • Utilizing job knowledge, judgment, and problem solving skills to ensure quality

Job Requirements

Job Requirements

Successful candidates for the Laboratory Supervisor would preferably be certified in the area of clinical laboratory science by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or the equivalent. However, this is not a requirement.

Additional requirements of the Laboratory Supervisor role include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, or a chemical, biological, or physical science or related field
  • 2 years of clinical laboratory management, leadership or supervisory experience
  •  Experience in hematology, urinalysis, coagulation with emphasis on abnormal differentials
  • Effective leadership skills, with the ability to motivate employees to meet and/or exceed performance expectations, and recognize star performers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
