Job Responsibilities



OVERVIEW:   The Substance Abuse Coordinator/CASAC will assess, counsel and refer individuals and families requiring assistance dealing with substance use problems, such as alcohol or drug abuse.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

  • Provide clinically based assessments of ACS referred adolescent and adult clients for Alcohol and Other Substance Abuse patterns.  
  • Evaluate ACS referred adolescent and adult clients with substance abuse issues for co-existing Mental Health issues 
  • Make recommendations for treatment and provide referrals to ACS staff.  This may include referrals to support services, medical evaluations and treatment, social services and\or employment services.  (ACS staff to make the actual referral).   
  • Assess collaterals re: co-dependency or needs secondary to substance abuse for collateral services and make appropriate recommendations.     
  • Monitor engagement of the clients with recommended services.
  • Maintain a listing of referral sources and contacts for ACS\CCP Collaboration to facilitate ease of referral and follow-up.   
  • Complete required documentation of consults within the required time frame. .
  • Prepare and maintain statistical reports.
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Consultation team, create linkages with ACS\DCP staff regarding substance abuse and mental health training needs.  
  • Formulate and conduct training for ACS staff with reference to substance abuse issues and co-occurring mental health issues. 
  • Collaborate with all relevant key participants in ACS system to ensure buy in and cooperation.
  • In conjunction with the team coordinator and consultants, collaborate in developing a clinical team that provides coordinated services within ACS division partners.
  • May provide case specific consultations and participation in family team meetings and child safety conferences providing for a more integrated consultation service. 
  • Participate in training, supervision and other consultative activities.

Job Requirements

We are looking for a Social Worker who combines a caring, patient, and adaptable personality, with independent problem-solving skills to carry out different residential programs. In this position, you should be able to provide a positive and efficient guidance to children and adolescents on their day-to-day activities and promote their independency. It is also important that you display excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to interact in a professional and empathetic manner with both residents and caregiving staff.

 

Specific qualifications for this behavioral health nonprofit role include:

  • Credentialed CASAC\Licensed Master’s Level Clinician
  • 2-4 years SA work experience.   
  • Knowledge of the child welfare system
  • Clear understanding of the impact of Alcohol and other Substances on family life
  • Knowledge of mental health issues as co-occurring issues in substance use
  • Understanding of racial and cultural forces impacting those affected by substance abuse 
  • Bi-lingual a plus.   
  • Willingness to work the NYC Holiday Schedule.
