Job Description

The Franchise Consultant has a dual role with equal importance.  First, the position will support franchisees with their ability to run a successful and profitable business by ensuring Potbelly systems and standards are being adhered to consistently.  Secondly, the position will also ensure that Potbelly Behaviors and Values (Potbelly Advantage) are represented throughout each franchise operation.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees 15-20 franchise shops

  • Uses the Franchise Disclosure Document to understand and consult to the franchise business and relationship between franchisor and franchisee

  • Serve as liaison between franchisees and company

  • Stay current on Potbelly initiatives and assess their impact to franchisee business

  • Ensure franchise shops receive and comply with all standards and operational procedures

  • Conducts 3-4 visits per shop per year plus support New Shop Openings (NSO); Responsible for own travel arrangements and meeting assigned travel budget

  • Develops shop visit criteria; delivers annual franchise audits (up to 3 per year) and collaborates with other departments to determine scope of audit. Provides verbal and written follow-up of shop visits and audits, including grade of operations, review of business plan and metrics review

  • Support the franchise shops through the food loving audit process

  • Ensure franchisee success through support and coaching on tools and systems through the Playbook

  • Provide continuous coaching and training regarding Potbelly Business practices for franchisees

  • Models Potbelly Behaviors and uses available company metrics(following PCSP) to measure franchise shop performance in business reviews, shop visits and discussions

  • Develop and participate in yearly franchise business planning and budgeting

  • Develops and participates in Discovery Day, 6 Day In Shop Training, and 10-12 Week Franchise Training programs

  • Develop and support lifecycle and quarterly marketing plans for all franchise shops

  • Train and collaborate with franchisee and partner with design team on NSO timeline

  • Supports keeping the Franchise Portal updated

  • Involved in the franchise sales process including interviewing, evaluating, and on-boarding franchise candidates

  • Determine best practices for future Franchise Area Consultants

Job Requirements

Essential Physical Functions

  • Must have the ability/stamina to work a minimum of 45 to 55 hours a week.

  • Will frequently reach, feel, bend, stoop, carry, finely manipulate and key in data.

  • Must be able to work in both warm and cool environments, indoors and outdoors.

  • Must be able to tolerate higher levels of noise from music, customer and employee traffic.

  • Must be able to tolerate potential allergens:  peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood and shellfish.

  • Must be able to communicate heavily with employees and Support Center through telephone, e-mail and in-person communications.

Experience, Education and Behaviors

  • Must represent The Potbelly Advantage and Our Values

  • Food and beverage experience strongly preferred

  • BA or BS required; advanced degree preferred; consideration made for current company employees

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience required

  • Excellent coaching and teaching skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to travel – 60-75% of time spent in shops

  • Thorough knowledge of Potbelly Advantage and of Balanced Scorecard approach(PCSP) to the business

  • Strong planning skills

  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and software utilized throughout the company.
