Job Description

NMR Spectroscopist / Analytical Chemist


The chemist / scientist will work with a company team to develop and operationalize a Lead Diversification Platform (LDP) from the perspective of small molecule structure elucidation.  A working knowledge in NMR structure interpretation is required, with a background in LC/MS analysis and chromatographic purification techniques.


  • Structural elucidation of small molecules through the use of NMR spectroscopy and LC/MS spectrometry.
  • Prepare compounds for NMR analysis, acquire relevant qualitative and quantitative NMR data (1H, COSY, TOCSY, HSQC, HMBC etc.), interpret this data to determine the structure of unknowns and summarize this information in written and/or oral reports.
  • Secondary responsibility will involve acquiring LC/MS data from biotransformation screens.
  • Work closely with company scientists to develop a process to streamline and operationalize the analytical aspects of a Lead Diversification Platform.

  • Masters or PhD in analytical or organic chemistry.
  • Demonstrated track record of technical problem solving in structure elucidation preferred with 3-7 years of experience post degree.
  • Hands-on experience on Bruker NMR instruments preferred.
  • Scientific expertise in analytical and preparative LC/MS is preferred.
  • Proficient with NMR software such as TopSpin, IconNMR, MNova/ACD.
  • Skillful knowledge in data acquisition and interpretation of NMR and LC/MS.
  • Experience with LC/MS software including MassLynx, ChemStation, Analyst, and PeakView would be useful.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office package is an asset.
  • Problem solving skills in small molecule purification.
