Job Description

Posting: Post-doctoral research associate, Translational Research & Innovative Oncology (TRIO) program, Department of Radiology, University of Illinois at Chicago

Job summary: Management, organization, coordination, and conduction of experiments for a multi-institutional biomedical swine cancer research initiative. Applicant will contribute to the design and delivery of bench top and translational research projects, as well as collaboration with researchers to develop, execute, and interpret research projects.

Job responsibilities:


• Collaborate with Principal Investigator and team researchers to develop objectives and design of research projects and proposals

• Formulate and conduct scientific experiments and analyses

• Perform complex laboratory techniques, data collection, and analyses; required lab techniques include molecular biology (DNA, RNA, and protein-based) and mammalian cell culture techniques.

• Develop and troubleshoot advanced, comprehensive experimental protocols.

• Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature searches, and apply specialized skills to analyze data


• Participate in lab management. Guide, train, and advise lower level researchers and students on techniques, methods, and procedures

• Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed

• Design and implement standard operating procedures related to laboratory techniques


• Contribute materials, prepare results, and assist in the writing of research findings for publications, papers, presentations, and other documents for publication.

• Assist in grant writing.

• Acts as a liaison between departments and research teams when necessary.

Staff management:

• Guide, train and advise lower level researchers and students on techniques, methods, and procedures.

• Hire, train, and supervise undergraduate students


• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned

• Attending scientific conferences

Job Requirements

Job knowledge, skills, education, and experience:

• Ph.D. in cell and molecular biology, genomics, or related field required

• Minimum of 3 years related research experience

• Comprehensive knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods

• Proficient in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture research techniques

• Demonstrate organizational skills and ability to work efficiently in a team environment

• Good oral and written communication skills

• Proficiency in organizing complex research initiatives and understanding of research

design and statistical analysis

• Strong interest in preclinical animal models, including porcine cancer models

Working conditions:

Research group: The Translational Research & Innovative Oncology (TRIO) team within the Department of Radiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago is a multidisciplinary team with expertise in Interventional Radiology, genomics, bioinformatics, and animal sciences which together provide a comprehensive approach to developing personalized preclinical translational animal models for oncology and advancing understanding the genetic basis for cancer across various organ systems.

Environment: Standard wet lab and tissue culture setting. Regular travel not expected but may occur occasionally around previously scheduled events.
