Job Description

Project Engineer: Blow Molding Plastic Packaging
Direct hire with benefits and relocation
Visa Sponsorship / Transfer not available

  • PAY: Up to $95K + Relocation package + 10% bonus potential
  • LOCATION: Atlanta, GA (Not commutable from Norcross, Roswell or Marietta areas)
  • DEGREE NEEDED: Engineering  completed 4 year degree.
  • MISC: This role has 10-20% travel. If you cannot do some overnight travel, this is not for you.
  • TYPES OF PROCESSES:  blow molding, specifically stretch and extrusion blow. PET and PE blends.

THE COMPANY & THE PLANT

In business for over 60 years and with over 100 plants, the hiring company is a multi-billion dollar, global, plastic packaging company which takes an aggressive R&D approach.  This New Product Design Engineer opening is with one of their R&D / development plants; it is not a production plant. At this location, there is pilot & trial, prototyping, scale-up, lab, and commercial production sized plastic processing machinery. They have 100+ facilities across the US, Europe, and Asia. The efforts of this facility cover the following: new product conceptual phases with customers, prototyping, trial runs, materials testing and quality troubleshooting, pilot and scale up.

THE JOB:  Project Engineer (new product development, scale up, commercialization oversight)

You need four things to be a candidate for this role: an engineering degree, blow molding experience, customer interaction experience, and some project leadership exposure (either NPD or equipment related).  Your blow molding experience can come from the following titles: process engineer, product development engineer, industrial engineer, manufacturing engineer, project engineer, plant engineer, etc. .

You need to be able to travel up to 20% for this role. In summary, you will be overseeing projects from concept to post-production phases. You will not have much hands-on work with duties such as CAD drawing, machine processing, etc. Rather, you will be collaborating with those engineering departments in efforts to keep new product development and capital equipment projects on track.

Experience meeting face to face with customers is a key skill set. Knowledge of blow molding technology is needed including: molds, tolerances, heat transfer, common quality issues, blow molding processes and equipment. You do not need to be a guru in any and/or all of these. As most blow molding companies have their own proprietary equipment, there is going to be some learning curve no matter how good the fit.

Job Requirements

  • 4 year completed engineering degree: BSME (Mechanical Engineering).  Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Materials Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Industrial Engineer, etc.
  • Blow molding experience: stretch or extrusion blow molding preferred (in some engineering role)
  • Can travel up to 15-20% domestically, 1 or 2 trips yearly that are international.
  • Project leadership exposure
