JOB TITLE

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Serves as the information officer and technical consultant of the college; responsible for designing, configuring, installing, maintaining and repairing network systems, subsystems and servers; oversees the computer/server room operation and environment; provides information, direction and/or recommendations regarding network installations and configurations including television, intercom, telephone and wireless systems; provides technical support to the campus locations; Requires travel to the different campus locations


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 Works with management to identify long-range information systems needs and establishes priorities for system upgrades and modifications in line with organizational goals

 Assists users to identify hardware, software and procedural requirements for each campus

 Serves as a resource to solve computer issues and makes recommendations to enhance information systems and promote more efficient, cost-effective campus operations

 Oversees systems analyses and computer projects from problem definitions through system implementation

 Designs computer networks (e.g., internet, webmail, FTP servers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring effective and efficient operating systems

 Ensures that hardware and software function efficiently on a daily basis and remains in a safe and functioning condition with appropriate backup systems in place

 Stays abreast of leading-edge information technology

 Works with all users to purchase computer equipment and supplies to assure value, ability, order time, capability and capacity in accordance with budget, growth, new and reliable uptime and system response time

 Negotiate most favorable prices and terms with vendors and reliable uptime and system response time

 Analyze technology needs for the organization and recommend solutions that are cost-effective and valuable

 Manage computer system upgrades and schedule them so that are least disruptive to the organization

 Administers systems and servers related to LAN and WAN (e.g., email systems, accounts, print queen, workstation ID, IP assignments, classroom computers, security, antivirus, spyware, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of services to authorized users

 Maintain that backup systems are working correctly and providing the necessary protection for the organization

 Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g., staff, administrators, campus personnel, outside vendors and service providers, etc.) for the purpose of providing technical assistance and support

 Manage telephone system hardware and software

 Transports various items for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site

 Maintain an inventory of hardware, software and site licenses

 Create and modify campus technology policies as necessary

EDUCATION:

 Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent work experience, required

 Master’s Degree, preferred


EXPERIENCE:
  

 Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in information systems, preferably in a higher education environment


KNOWLEDGE:

 Advanced knowledge with configuration, installation, maintenance, support and troubleshooting of LANs, microcomputers and other systems

 Proven track record of delivering outstanding customer service in a multisite/campus IT environment

 System development, routers, client/server technology, Internet/intranets


SKILLS:

 High level of integrity and professionalism

 Strong analytical, problem-solving, mathematical/statistical, time management and organizational skills

 Excellent communication and interpersonal telephone skills

 Excellent oral and written communication skills


ABILITIES:

 Ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities

 Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

 Ability to work with professional integrity and discretion

 Ability to use technology efficiently and appropriately
