Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President of IT of a premier asset-based specialized heavy haul carriers that is recognized annually as one of the largest and well respected in North America. With multiple locations, concentrated in the Southwest, the company has expanded its operations to provide full service logistical solutions, capable of managing all aspects of project transportation, inclusive of all modes of transportation. 

The Information Technology Manager’s responsibility is to direct and coordinate development and production activities of data processing department by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Consults with management to determine information requirements of management and operations staff to determine boundaries and priorities of new projects, and to discuss system capacity and equipment acquisitions. Confers with department heads involved with proposed projects to ensure cooperation and further define nature of project. Consults with Computer Systems Hardware Analyst to define equipment needs. Reviews project feasibility studies and establishes work standards. Prepares progress reports to inform management of project status and deviation from goals. Contracts with management specialists, technical personnel, or vendors to solve problems. Revises computer operating schedule to introduce new program testing and operating runs. Reviews reports of computer and peripheral equipment production, malfunction, and maintenance to ascertain costs and plan operating changes. Analyzes department workflow and workers’ job duties to recommend reorganization or departmental realignment within company. Prepares proposals and solicits sales of systems analysis, programming, and computer services to outside firms. Assists staff to diagnose and solve computer equipment problems. Participates in technical projects such as writing equipment specifications or developing computer programs for specified applications. 

Directly supervises employees (4 direct reports…. network admin, programmer, and 2 help desk techs) in the IT Department. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.



Job Requirements

Background Required:  
• Managed & Directed Information Technology Operations (5 Yrs)
• Project management
• Staff management 
• Logistics industry (i.e. truckload, dedicated fleets)
• Hands on technical (i.e. programing, networking, development)
• Strong mathematical skills  
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree (4yr College /University) – IT or Computer Related Field
• Location: Fort Worth, Texas 

Background Preferred (but not required): 
• IBM iSeries Machines  
• TMS ITS software
• McLeod software 
• Accounting & finance principles

Other Essential Abilities and Skills: 
• Define problems, collect data, establish facts, & draw valid conclusions
• Analytical
• Good communicator at all levels of organization
• Excellent oral & written skills 
• Ability to satisfy internal & external customer
