Job Description

Position Summary:

The Laboratory Technician works with the supervisor to perform and analyze research related to flow cytometry experiments, assist with mouse colony, train and supervise undergraduate students, and manage a research laboratory, all on a daily basis. Work requires exercising independent judgment and basic theoretical knowledge of the applicable science. This position will include limited training and supervision of entry-level laboratory personnel.

Primary Responsibilities:

-Plans and performs experiments.

-Confers with supervisor regarding tasks to be performed and recommends modifications as needed.

-Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data, prepares reports summarizing results, and conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.

-Monitors and maintains specialized lab equipment (e.g. Minispec, shared microscope, etc.), laboratory supplies, and materials. Monitors, breeds and genotypes mice in the colony.

-Trains and helps supervise undergraduate research assistants.

Job Requirements


- Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or other health related scientific discipline or equivalency required.

- Must possess a minimum of 1 year of work experience relative to the scope, functions, and responsibilities.


- Completed a Master’s degree in Biology or health related scientific discipline or equivalent level of research experience desired.

-Possess 2 years of work experience relative to the scope, function, and responsibilities.
