Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for building relationships with the franchisees and to promote business growth.  Provide direction and accountability in the region as it relates to management issues, increasing client base, revenues and net earnings.  Provide leadership and guidance to assigned Franchise General Managers as well as the offices located within the assigned territory
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide leadership and direction to Franchise General Managers ensuring that goals and targets are met within the assigned territory.  Provide direction related to the implementation of new operational programs and/or computer systems.  Coaches and mentors Franchise General Managers and evaluate their performance. 
  • Conducts on-going training, performance feedback, and development of Franchise General Managers. Approve associate performance data and identify potential associates for advancement and additional skill development.
  • Participate in strategic planning along with other field leaders to ensure that the direction of the business is appropriate and positioned to achieve its goals and objectives.  
  • Provide direction to Franchise General Managers in areas related to selecting prime office locations, identifying methods to continuously improve business performance and growth, and operating the office in compliance with company policies and promoting company programs.
  • Review summary operations data and recommend the best solutions to improve the performance of each assigned franchise area.  Recommend to management long-term solutions affecting the overall business direction.
  • Frequently visit assigned franchise offices to ensure consistent application and interpretation of company policies and procedures. Identify and implement solutions for a consistent business approach, but remain sensitive to the individual business needs of each office.
  • Deal effectively with resistance from franchisees when introducing change. Be able to identify and address different forms of resistant behavior such as getting franchisees to implement necessary changes when they don’t initially agree and/or dealing with franchisees who reject ideas, or who agree to change, and then do not change.
  • Ensure Franchise General Managers develop and implement annual Business Plan with Franchisees, advise on the amount and use of advertising budget, and work closely with offices to analyze effectiveness of local and national advertising. 
  • Attend district, regional and national meetings and represent the interests of the assigned region. 

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements
 
  • Minimum of 7+ years of progressive business experience including experience in retail, strategic planning, budgeting and project management;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the franchisor/franchisee relationship while helping franchisees understand their role in building market share for the whole system;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of field management's role at all levels;
  • Ability to make independent decisions; assume complete responsibility for his/her work and decisions;
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and negotiate with individuals within a direct and indirect reporting relationship structure 
     

Preferred Qualifications
 
  • Four years of experience as a District Manager or Franchise District Manager;
  • Field management experience or exposure to and understanding of the H&R Block field operations;
  • Familiarity with the franchising business model;
  • Experience managing five to six direct reports;
  • Extensive travel is required
