Job Description

Role:
Manages the Information System Department staff and the resources dedicated to supporting all office automation, computers, end-user equipment, network and systems security and database administration. Overall responsibility for maintaining the networks, servers, operating systems and communication systems for company.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • 50% Provides primary support for the  network and PC/LAN servers which includes planning, implementing, maintaining and troubleshooting network and system hardware and software. Manages the Department responsible for planning, implementing, maintaining an otherwise supporting the VAX system, PC hardware and software products, wide area communications, database systems, network and systems security and access controls. Works extensively with internal as well as external contacts. 
  • 25% Participates in short and long-range planning for the department to propose appropriate technologies to Senior Management in order to meet the evolving needs of the Credit Union and its members. Attends meetings as requested and participates in projects as needed in order to determine how company will continue to convert visions into realities. 
  • 20% Directs significant special projects as required. Leads Department meetings on a weekly basis to ensure that the Department is adequately addressing needs within company, communicates with staff to ensure that the Department stays properly informed pertaining to all projects within company, discusses Departmental needs and issues, and communicates pertinent feedback to Senior Management. 
  • 5% Oversees the maintenance of hardware and software as it pertains to disaster recovery plan and provides technical support for disaster recovery testing. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

1. Maintain a cohesive, highly trained, motivated staff sufficient to meet daily department demands and the daily needs. As a Branch Support Department, ensures that all Help Desk needs are matched with adequate Department resources and prioritization. Ensures that staff is thoroughly monitoring open calls and tickets with Episys on a weekly basis. Assigned staff will review each open help desk item and each open Episys item every week, and take measures needed to address and close out each item as quickly as possible. Coordinates all Departmental activities and functions.

2. Ensure prompt response to and recovery from systems and network related production interruptions, across multiple hardware platforms, networks and operating systems. Ensures that the Department is properly communicating in regard to Technology related issues.

3. Anticipate system and network security/integrity risks and ensure adequate safeguards are maintained.

4. Ensure credit union licensed PC software remains current by testing and updating software as new versions are released.

5. Identify opportunities to improve services to the credit union and/or its members through use of new products and technologies. Works extensively with others on projects while keeping technology in the fore front of project initiatives.

6. Develop recommendations for cost efficiencies and enhancements to products, pricing and processes by monitoring trends in financial services operations.

7. Keep Senior Management informed regarding key operating issues affecting the department, or wide operating issues.

8. Note observations of employee performance and coaches Department employees to meet or exceed the expectations and standards. Completes performance reviews within the prescribed timeframe. Conducts weekly staff meetings in Department to ensure that the Department is fully informed on all aspects of operations from projects, to weekly calendars and appointments, and resource management.

9. Department Managers actively seek out ongoing learning opportunities. As Department Manager, attending a Technology related conference on a yearly basis furthers knowledge within the area of expertise. Yearly conferences ensure that Department Managers maintain a network of resources within their field, as well as keeping us up to date with industry trends and developments.

10. As Department Manager, serves as the example by demonstrating and living our Core Values on a daily basis. Monitors and coaches staff and holds them accountable to our Core Values as well.

11. Maintains a subscription to the Technology Cuna Council, and actively participates in the council. The council provides a nationwide network of Information Systems peers, strategic planning and vision, as well as learning opportunities.

Job Requirements

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience:
A minimum of five years of similar or related experience. Not only experience within the job field, but proven experience in managing employees or a Department.

Education:
A college degree is preferred.

Interpersonal Skills:
The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is a vital part of the job. Must be an excellent communicator, not only within the Department but within company as a whole. Information Technology impacts virtually all aspects of company, the Department Manager ensures that parties are properly informed and working together as a unit.

Other Skills:
Must possess a wide range of data processing experience including networks, PCs, data communications, mainframe and PC programming and data organization. Must have experience in technical planning, project management and personnel management. Must have the ability to discuss technical issues effectively with other data processing professionals as well as non-technical end users. Must have excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Must have the innate ability to see and hear the vision, and then exhaust every avenue possible in order to establish how the vision could become a reality. Must be available to travel as needed. Experience with Symitar Episys Core system is preferred.
