OTR Delivery Driver – CDL Truck Driver

Job Responsibilities

 

As an OTR Delivery Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and legal operation of a commercial motor vehicle, to ensure the proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork related to truck operations and the timely transportation of freight from origin to destination. This will involve putting into action your knowledge of commercial driving and related skills to safely operate and maneuver equipment at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, or congested dock areas.

 

Additional duties for this full time transportation role include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Driving for extended periods of time, up to the maximum allowable time in a safe manner and in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Inspecting tractor-trailer combinations for defect and safely operating any condition before, during, and after trips
  • Ensuring that all the documentation required to move shipments is accurately maintained and made available for inspection as required
  • Understanding and overseeing loading/unloading of trailers to ensure proper positioning of freight for safe and secure transport
  • Checking shipping papers and freight to determine nature of load and for the presence of hazardous materials
  • Understanding Federal, State and company regulations as they apply to the transportation of hazardous materials
  • Maintaining accurate records required to comply with Federal, State, and company regulations covering drivers’ logs, trip reports, records of miles and fuel purchases, etc.
  • Reading, understanding, interpreting and applying information relating to trip planning and time management
  • Communicating both telephonically and via satellite as well as in person, with company personnel and the general public regarding dispatch assignments, schedules, directions, trip information, etc.
  • Promptly reporting any delays due to equipment breakdowns, adverse weather, traffic conditions or other emergency situations
  • Following company procedures in the prompt reporting of work-related injuries, accidents involving driver, equipment or property damage, or other incidents

Job Requirements

 

We are looking for a safety-minded CDL Truck Driver who combines exceptional driving skills with the commitment to providing world-class customer service. In addition, you should be highly organized with strong time-management and prioritization skills to handle multiple priorities within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. It is also important that you display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to establish and maintain professional and cooperative relationships with both customers and colleagues.

 

Specific requirements for this logistics / distribution shipping role include:

 

  • Graduate from an approved truck driver training program with completion of approved on-the-job training

OR minimum 100,000 miles of verifiable tractor-trailer experience

  • Minimum 23 years of age
  • Valid CDL License
  • Current medical examiner’s certificate provided by company physician
  • Current certificate of Hazardous Materials Training & Testing, road test certificate, written test certificate, and driver qualification card issued by company
  • English proficiency both oral and written
  • Intermediate math skills
  • Ability to read and use a road atlas, city maps, and other geographical documents to accomplish delivery of freight in a timely manner with minimum variance using the correct and legal route
  • Ability to comply with, the proper methods of loading, securing, and unloading various types of freight
  • Ability to appraise, evaluate, and adequately respond to environmental strain and emotional stress
  • Ability to hook-unhook various commercial vehicle combinations
  • Solid understanding of Federal, State and Company regulations
  • Physical demands include:
    • Ability to shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals
    • Ability to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of time, up to 11 hours
    • Agility to regularly enter and exit the vehicle’s cab frequently each day
    • Ability to frequently walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop and squat, as well as grasp, lift and handle heavy equipment, as necessary, to perform vehicle inspections
    • Ability to carry weights up to 75lbs.
    • Ability to install and remove tire chains when required due to inclement weather
    • Ability to perform duties in various working and environmental conditions in many different geographical locations, both dry climates, as well as wet climates
    • Ability to frequently spend extended periods of on-duty time in the truck, exposed to noise and vibration levels, which may be higher than those typically experienced in passenger cars, while driving
    • Ability to regularly withstand extended periods of time away from home, generally ten to fourteen days
