We’re looking for an Associate Principal to lead our dynamic and diverse New York facades team. Group Operations
  • Overseeing and mentoring all levels of staff so that meaningful delegation can apply within the team.
  • Ensure latest learning and development initiatives are implemented as required within the team.
  • Champion delivery of the company’s Performance and Development Review process in support of all the above.
  • Support the management of reward and recognition of the team.
  • Take on a broader leadership role across the US business for facades, looking at ways to develop our facade offering in LA, San Francisco, Chicago and Boston.

Business Development & Work Winning
  • Work with Group Director, Managing Director, Business Development and Marketing to identify the group’s marketing goals and establish an associated plan.
  • Winning work – actively identifying and converting leads to projects within the framework of the group marketing strategy.
  • Dynamic focus on new business in domestic and international markets, broadening coverage of high quality clients and projects across a range of market sectors.
  • Promoting BuroHappold’s integrated services to potential clients.
  • Reviewing financial and technical submissions/proposals; attending interviews.
  • Developing and maintaining key client relationships under all circumstances, maximizing opportunities for repeat business.

Project Leadership
  • Project Leader for appropriate group projects, taking ownership for sustained and productive client relationships.
  • Directing multiple projects across the group, taking responsibility for the engineering solutions while ensuring financial success.
  • Delivering a risk managed portfolio; working within agreed capital lock up parameters.
  • Ensuring ‘design rigor’ is delivered on each project, and in particular ensuring design QA processes are fully planned and implemented.
  • Maintain appropriate understanding of prevailing policies and technical innovations applying in the architectural engineering industry.
  • Work closely with other specialisms within the firm, embrace structures, MEP and specialist groups and ensure facades are fully integrated.

Job Requirements

What are we looking for?
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering innovative and creative Façade Engineering solutions within a dynamic organization, with a strong focus on high-performance building envelopes.
  • Strong people management and leadership skills, coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the New York construction marketplace.
  • Outstanding relationship management skills, ability to build and develop sustained working relationships with clients, colleagues and wider network of the AEC industry.
  • Relevant degree in engineering or architecture.
  • Professionally licenced engineer or architect is desired.
  • Solid understand of façade structures and building physics, including an intimate familiarity with complex geometry and optimization routes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital applications for design and fabrication of enclosure systems.
