Position Description

As part of the Ryder IT team, the Data Management Intern will perform a variety of job functions, including but not limited to: development, testing, documentation, and production environments support, including troubleshooting and development. The position may be extended past the summer internship period and lead to a temporary position.

Intern is expected to work with “Enterprise Information Management Team” on or more of the following activities

  1. Data Modeling, Data Profiling & Business Glossary
  2. Help Data Architect in consolidating & reviewing Data Models based on Ryder data standards
  3. To be able to collaborate with Ryder Business, Application & Technical teams
  4. Basic knowledge of Metadata & data governance

  • High school diploma
  • Must have completed at least four (4) semesters of college or university and be currently enrolled toward a degree in management information systems, business administration with computer courses, or computer science with business administration courses
  • Graduate student with a bachelor's degree in management information systems or business administration with information system courses preferred
  • Certificate in business intelligence completed or in progress preferred
  • Understanding of information technologies
  • Ability to write SQL queries
  • Understanding of business intelligence dimensional model structures including facts and dimensions preferred
  • Ability to work well under pressure, successfully meet schedules and work independently to produce high quality work with minimal supervision
  • Strong PC and software product skills (Windows, MS Office, MS Excel, and Access)
  • Strong customer focus with ability to effectively communicate with management, co-workers, and customers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented and accountable
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to operate as part of cross-functional project team that will organize, plan and execute varying scale projects from vision to implementation
  • Exposure to Tableau dashboards, MicroStrategy Visual Insights dashboards or similar business intelligence tools preferred

  •  Conduct business requirements analysis, document requirements, including facilitation of sessions with the business
  • Perform application testing and data profiling
  • Produce business requirement documentation, including Business Matrix and functional requirements
  • Develop Microstrategy dynamic dashboards and reports
  • Troubleshoot reporting and data issues
  • SQL troubleshooting
  • Understand that the end user is the primary reason for the technology, and therefore, strive for full customer satisfaction
  • Partner with key members of various departments to determine the definitions of essential data elements
  • Design and write the scripts required to ensure the business intelligence or reporting application is reporting the data correctly
  • Support the designs' logical and physical data warehouse models
  • Support the mapping of source system data to data warehouse models
  • Define and capture metadata and rules associated with the calculation of metrics
  • Perform other duties as assigned
