Job Description

Arcadis is currently searching for a Principal Water / Wastewater Engineer, with a minimum 12 years’ experience to join our Water Business Line team in the Northern New Jersey area office (Fair Lawn, NJ).

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated engineer to join our team locally with support from one of the best-qualified consulting firms in the country. The Principal Engineer, with the
support of a strong nationally recognized technical staff, will utilize their expertise and technical knowledge of water/wastewater planning, permitting, design & construction engineering, along with a proven reputation for excellence in Client Management and a strong track record of successfully leading and executing projects, leading project pursuits and winning work within the municipal Water / Wastewater market of this region.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
  • Project Manager and team leader who will utilize their technical knowledge and experience to develop municipal water/wastewater projects, lead the successful execution and delivery of those projects and develop the team’s overall capabilities.
  • Perform marketing and business development for water/wastewater market in region. Works with other senior staff to manage clients in region.
  • Lead projects from planning to design and construction of water/wastewater treatment facilities, storm water systems, and distribution / collection systems, as well as creating construction documents/specifications and handling engineering services during construction.
  • Develop project scope, budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment, and responsible for ensuring tasks/projects are completed within budget and on schedule.
  • Coordinate execution of projects with other disciplines.
  • Develop small to large design projects from inception to completion.
  • Prepare complete construction packages (including all deliverables) for the engineering, procurement, and construction of water/wastewater systems for clients.
  • Create and manage cost estimates and project schedules.
  • Perform detailed engineering calculations & analysis, and utilize design software to solve complex issues. Drafting software knowledge a plus, but drafting is not required as part of this position.
  • Supervise and support the work of others and mentor junior level engineer & design/drafting technical staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 12 years plus experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field of study.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • Engineering Consulting firm experience in water / wastewater plant/facility design and construction administration/oversight projects.
  • Experience preparing, reviewing and approving project drawings, specifications, schedules and cost estimates.
  • Staff development and supervision skills; including mentoring junior level staff.
  • Strong, clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Client relationship skills; including preparation and development of proposals and client management experience with a successful record of accomplishment, delivering a variety of engineering projects
  • that meet or exceed the expectations of the client.
Preferred Qualifications

  • 15 years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Master's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or an MBA.
  • Professional Engineer in NJ.
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional associations.
