Paladin is searching for an Associate Magazine Editor on a contract-to-hire basis for a membership organization based in Evanston. In this role, you would be responsible for aggregating and creating content for two sections of a quarterly magazine distributed to 56,000 organization members. Additionally, in this role you will have the opportunity to write various short- and long-form articles for both online and print publication and will also contribute to a monthly e-newsletter.
The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of journalism experience in a magazine, newspaper or online setting and will be well-versed in AP Style.
Location: Evanston
Job Type: contract-to-hire
Salary: DOE, range begins at $35K
• Create the obituary section of each issue of the publication by collecting obituaries for members who have passed away.
• Create a membership news section of each issue by soliciting updates and fact-checking and copyediting the submissions
• Create stories by brainstorming original ideas and interviewing sources for material as assigned
• Create and compile various other departmental content as assigned
• Solicit, compile, and fact-check content from members of various departments for publication in the monthly newsletter
• Create original content for monthly newsletter publication
• Work on press releases
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field
• At least three (3) years of reporting and writing experience for a newspaper, magazine or other publication
• Adept in AP Style
• Ability manage projects independently and meet deadlines
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Specifically Photoshop and InDesign)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
