Job Description

Basic Function
The Relationship Liaison Team Leader is responsible for coaching, motivation and development of the assigned RL team to effect performance improvement and drive KPI results. Make recommendations concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions and terminations. At the community bank level, provide local support, leadership and operational expertise to RL team and partners (including RM, TLs & Regionals). Provide training and specific development plans that promote empowerment and critical thinking to individual RLs. Facilitate adherence to Bank policies & procedures and mitigate risk while delivering exceptional customer service. Recommend process improvements and act as agents for change within Business Banking and Bank-wide.  

Essential Position Responsibilities
Responsible for the planning, leadership, problem resolution, analysis and reporting for assigned RL team.
Inspect, manage & coach RL team to drive improvement in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Monitor work flow and serve as liaison between RL team and management.
Provide advice and guidance to the RL team to ensure adequate coverage and efficient and exceptional service.

Review and recommend new methods and procedures to make daily operations and customer service more efficient, and improve customer satisfaction.
Provide recommendations for department policy changes and create new RL policy and procedures.
Consult and communicate with operations staff.

Provide input to tactical planning and short-term initiatives.
Responsible for RL team regulatory, policy & procedural compliance.
Support credit and operational risk management and audit directives.
Identify and address risk.

Make recommendations concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, and terminations.
Oversee training and development of RL Team.
Interview prospective employees and make recommendations for hire.

Responsible for process improvement & implementation of initiatives.
Participate in projects at the Bank and department level.

Liaison, coach and assist with managing partners’ support of Business Banking.
Research and resolve complex internal and external customer issues.
Provide empowerment and support to RL team to resolve difficult internal and external customer problems.

Administer the provision of business customer services, such as evaluating and processing new loans and resolving customer inquiries.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Nature and Scope
This position requires knowledge of business, applicable regulations and affiliated technology.
Ability to supervise, motivate and coach performance of RL team and produce results.

Build bench-strength within the RL team, attract and retain talent. Continuously evaluate staffing levels and make appropriate recommendations.

Solid knowledge of Bank policies and procedures.

Provide technical, functional and operational expertise in department work policies and procedures.

Works under minimal supervision and makes autonomous decisions, applying discretion and experience to determine when escalation is needed to resolve problems and address risk.

Internal contacts within department or other M&T departments. External contacts with customers and outside agencies.

This position will oversee a department of 10 or more employees.

Minimum Basic Qualifications Required  
Bachelors degree or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 4 years work experience
A minimum of four (4) years of operations and customer service experience
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to travel when required

Ideal Qualifications Preferred
Two to three years supervisory experience or commensurate demonstrated leadership ability
Proficient in software and systems utilized in department (e.g., AFS, Hogan, Shaw, ERM, CLAS, COS)
