Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Licensed vocational nurses, often known as LVNs, provide basic bedside care to patients supervised by registered nurses and medical practitioners. The term is specific to Texas and California. In other states, licensed vocational nurses are known as licensed practical nurses.

A licensed vocational nurse is responsible for a number of daily duties, including:

  • Helping patients perform basic activities feeding, dressing, and maintaining good hygiene
  • Monitoring patients' vital signs, including blood pressure and temperature, and response to medications
  • Recording intake and output of fluids and foodstuffs, patient histories, and health.
