Oldcastle Architectural Products Group is the leading North American producer of concrete masonry products. Created in 1991 from existing operations, APG generated over $1.1 billion in revenues in 2002.

A reflection of CRH, APG is a federation of companies that maintains the local knowledge and operating autonomy of each company while benefiting from the financial and technical resources of a larger group. APG companies work autonomously to service their local markets whiles leveraging the groups’ best practices and resources.

APG operates under 4 business units that reflect its geographic, product and customer breadth:

APG Canada is the largest producer of concrete pavers in the country. With 11 facilities in Ontario and Quebec it operates as an independent business unit.

Glen-Gery joined APG in 1998 and is one of the largest brick producers in the country with a strong position in the midwest and Northeastern US. It operates 10 plants in the region.

APG Concrete Products operates through 5 geographical regions and one independent company. It manages all of APG’s U.S. block and paver plants, concrete tile operations, decorative concrete and other specialty facilities. Its plants are a combination of acquired companies and greenfield plants that service both local and national accounts.

In 2002, APG Retail Group was formed to provide a single point of contact for our national and regional retail customers and bring increased focus to this important growth sector. This group consolidates APG’s retail-specific manufacturing (bagged cement and decorative stone) with retail sales of concrete products (pavers and block.)

APG Retail is now a major player in both the building products and lawn & garden sections of the major homecenters and mass merchants.
Oldcastle APG companies have an exceptional safety record. Group companies consistently exceed industry safety standards. A very high priority is placed on regular safety training and on the sharing of the best health and safety practices across the group. Oldcastle APG is committed to a safe workplace in all of it locations, for all of its employees. This requires a complete awareness of and total commitment to safety from management to employee. We're committed to be proactive in plant and machine design in order to eliminate any safety issues before they become problems. This deep commitment to safety is manifested in our "design-for-safety" program for all APG facilities. Safety professionals, vendors and employees review equipment design and engineer APG's Daily Plant Fundamentals to ensure a healthy, safe and productive workplace. Employees receive new-hire safety orientation and are assigned a mentor to guide and teach them. Over the course of their careers, employees participate in weekly safety toolbox talks, safety committees, and regional "Hazard Hunter" safety education sessions to further guarantee a safe workplace. Safety encouragement programs range from "Gainshare" plans linked to the daily plant fundamentals to team goals with awards presented for safety milestones. Safety pays! APG has adopted a "Not on My Watch" philosophy; managers and employees embody this philosophy as a "safety" way of life protecting our number one asset - our people.
