For more than 75 years Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Associates has provided comprehensive eye, ear, nose and throat care to generations of Carolinians in the Metrolina area. In 1923, three physicians became a part of Charlotte medical history when they formed a partnership and built the first specialty hospital for this region in uptown Charlotte.

Today, Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Associates is one of the largest multi-specialty practices of its kind in the United States. The uncommon foresight of our founding physicians set a precedent that has continued throughout three generations of service to the people of the Charlotte area.

1923-2004: 81 Years of Commitment to the Carolinas
Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates, P.A. is a medical group practice specializing in ophthalmology and otolaryngology that has served the Charlotte area since 1923. This multi-specialty group started as Charlotte Eye, Ear and Throat (CEET) Hospital on Seventh Street, downtown Charlotte. The CEET Hospital was formed in 1923 by a partnership of James P. Matheson, M.D., Clarence N. Peeler, M.D., and Henry L. Sloan, Sr., M.D. The original 37-bed facility was a much-needed addition to the community. Prior to the opening of the CEET Hospital, many patients were placed in local hotels following their surgery because the local hospitals were over crowded.

Patient Representative: A qualified candidate would posses the following: medical office experience, computer proficiency in the windows environment, excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, knowledge of medical insurance and excellent organizational skills.

Ophthalmic Technician: A qualified candidate would possess the following: ability to refract in +/- cylinder, retinoscopy, check pressures, keratometry readings, reading glass prescriptions, visual acuity, excellent communication skills, detail-oriented, previous experience and ability to perform at a C.O.A. level or above. Certification requirements are: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician Certificate preferred.

Medical Office Assistant: A qualified candidate would posses the following: a general knowledge of medical insurance, excellent cornmunication skills, detail-oriented and proficient on most software applications. ENT experience is preferred. Certification requirements are M.O.A. or C.N.A.

Surgery Scheduler: A qualified candidate would posses the following: computer proficient in the windows environment, excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to details, knowledge of medical insurance and excellent organizational skills.

Our benefits include health and dental insurance, healthcare and dependent flexible spending accounts, employee and dependent life insurance, short and long term disability insurance as well as a generous 401k and money purchase plan. And, on the first day of the month following 30 days of service, you are covered.

Medical Coverage-Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat offers a health plan for employees and dependents. This allows individuals to select the type of coverage they want and need.

Dental Assistance-We offer a dental plan for employees and dependents and dental coverage can be obtained even if medical coverage is not selected.

Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account. Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat offers employees an opportunity to deposit a tax-free portion of their gross income into a savings-like account which is then used to pay for unreimbursed medical as well as certain dependent care expenses.

Life insurance-An employee is granted one times their salary in life insurance. They may purchase up to $500,000 in additional life if they so choose. We also offer coverage for spouses and dependents.

Short/Long Term Disability-Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat provides short-term disability insurance for employees at 60% after a two week waiting period. Long-term disability is offered at 40% and 60% of annual salary that begins after 180 days.

Holidays-Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat observes the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day.

Earned Time Off-During a full time employee's first year of service, he/she will accumulate 22 earned time days. As length of service increases, so does earned time for a maximum of 27 days after 15 years of service. Earned time may also be cashed in at any time during the year.

Flexible Scheduling-Many of our employees enjoy a flexible schedule which includes benefits. We offer full time (38+ hours), 3/4 time (30-37 hours), part time (20-29 hours) and short time (20 hours or less-no benefits).

Employee Discounts-All full time, 3/4 time and part time employees (after 6 months of service except where noted) are entitled to participate in the Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat discount program. Alternative discounts are also offered to family members of Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat employees. Discounts include office visits, eyeglasses, hearing aids and accessories, contact lens, certain procedures, cosmetic/elective/non-covered surgery performed by physician and LASIK procedures. Other benefits offered at Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat include credit union membership, bereavement leave, military leave, jury duty/witness pay, parental leave, employee assistance fund, Worker's Compensation, Unemployment Compensation, and Family and Medical Leave Policy.

Each year, Business North Carolina (a leading magazine on North Carolina’s business and industry) publishes their “Best Doctors” issue. Physicians in the state are surveyed by Boston-based Best Doctors, Inc., asking whom they would choose to treat themselves and their families.

Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Associates Helps Bothersome Ringing In Ears Through New Program

Ringing, buzzing, hissing or humming in the ears is a bothersome condition called tinnitus. Tinnitus is most commonly caused by exposure to excessive noise which damages the hearing nerve, resulting in a constant sound perception. Other causes of tinnitus include wax impaction, ear infections, Meniere’s disease, head or neck injury, jaw disorders, low or high blood pressure, thyroid problems, certain medications, and acoustic tumors.

Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Associates (CEENTA) offers a tinnitus retraining program at their SouthPark office in Charlotte. This program helps patients decrease awareness of their tinnitus using different sound therapies including hearing aids and sound generators (devices used at ear level that produce constant background or “white” noise). Patients are interviewed by an audiologist and put through a series of tests to determine the severity of their tinnitus and/or hearing loss. Counseling and tinnitus retraining sessions are then scheduled with a trained CEENTA audiologist. For more information or an appointment, please call 704/295-3300.

There are only three sites in North Carolina that offer tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) programs and Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Associates is proud to offer this to the greater Charlotte area.

Tinnitus retraining therapy was developed by neuroscientist, Dr. Pawel Jastreboff at Emory University in Atlanta. Its goal is to reduce awareness of the tinnitus and increase awareness of other external sounds.

It is estimated that 44 million Americans suffer from tinnitus and more than 30 percent of people over age 65 report it to their doctor. Constant tinnitus may be annoying to the point that it interferes with everyday things including sleep and concentration.

History

For more than 80 years, Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates has provided comprehensive eye ear nose and throat care to generations of Carolinians. In 1923, three physicians became a part of Charlotte medical history when they formed the multispecialty group, Charlotte Eye Ear and Throat (CEENT) Hospital on Seventh Street in downtown Charlotte.

The 37 bed CEET Hospital was formed by the partnership of James P. Matheson, MD, Clarence N. Peeler, MD, and Henry L. Sloan, Sr., MD. This was the first multispecialty hospital of its kind in the area, which also housed an optical department, laboratory and waiting room.

The physicians of the first multispecialty facility boast several accomplishments.

1923: Dr. James Matheson, Dr. Clarence Peeler, and Dr. Henry Sloan, Sr. form a partnership and name it Charlotte Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital on Seventh Street in downtown Charlotte. This 37-bed facility was the first specialty hospital in the area, offering additional hospital bed space and doctor’s offices as well as an optical department, laboratory and operating room.

1923: Dr. (Honorary) Wendell Roberts, Director of the Laboratory and X-ray Department, receives national attention for inventing a triangulation or three-dimensional fluoroscope that helps radiologists and doctors locate foreign bodies on X-ray.

1923: Dr. Al Dorenbusch pioneers the nasal approach to tear duct surgery.

1948: CEET welcomes Dr. Beverly Armstrong, the only otolaryngologist in the Southeast who performed the fenestration operation for improvement of hearing for patients with otosclerosis.

1951: Dr. W.E. Roberts proves that glass in the eye can be photographed on X-ray film. Dr. Verling Hart is reknowned for his expertise in endoscopy.

1952: Dr. Armstrong designs the first tympanostomy tube to alleviate middle ear problems.

1966: CEET Hospital moves to East Third Street with 62 beds and three operating suites. Charlotte Eye Ear Nose and Throat Associates and the CEET hospital split into separate entities.

1992: Clinical research department is established to conduct phase II-IV clinical research trials on eye and ear, nose and throat disorders.

1998: Clinical research department changes name to Southeast Clinical Research Associates to reflect expanding services and broadened fields of study.

1985: Pineville office opens

1991: University area office opens

1994: Matthews office opens

1997: Merger with Laurel Eye Associates results in Monroe office opening

1998: Belmont & Rock Hill offices open

1999: Merger with Randolph Ear Nose & Throat Associates adds two additional offices.

2000: Headquarters relocates to new 80,000 square foot office building in the heart of Charlotte’s SouthPark area; Huntersville office opens

2003: Merger with Children’s Eye Care and Strabismus, office in the Arboretum area of south Charlotte opens; Lancaster, SC office opens; Belmont office moves to new location on Spruce Street.

2006: Blakeney office opens

2007: Monroe office moves to a new state of the art facility - 1632 E. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC
