Austin Industries has been commissioned by a long list of major corporations for the construction of corporate headquarters, facilities and industrial sites. We are also the originator of many major North Texas highway interchanges. In fact, pre-WW II steel truss bridges built by Austin Industries still stand strong as part of Texas roads today.
Austin Industries has a rich history. We are one of the largest and most diversified construction firms in the nation. Our financial strength – projects in progress exceeding $2 billion in completion value – is a testament to our longstanding sound financial management.
In 1902, Frank and George Austin began the fabrication and installation of iron truss bridges across Texas and Georgia, advancing the transportation infrastructure to meet the new demands of automobiles. Charles R. Moore, a manager of the Austin Brothers Bridge Company, purchased the contracting portion of the company in 1918, modifying the name to Austin Bridge Company. Adapting to economic conditions and social change more than five decades, Austin Industries – the holding company – was formed in 1974 as a managing entity. Today, Austin Industries oversees the operation of three companies – Austin Bridge & Road, Austin Commercial and Austin Industrial.
The Austin Industries Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) was instituted in 1986, transferring 60 percent of company ownership to employees over the next two years. By 2000, Austin Industries was 100 percent employee-owned. Today, with more than 6,000 employee-owners invested in the stewardship of Austin Industries resources, we are currently engaged in projects with a completion value in excess of $2 billion.
People and Performance
Success depends on more than building outstanding structures; success is equally dependent on building enduring relationships. We are committed to complete integrity in all interactions with our customers, design professionals, vendors, subcontractors and fellow employee-owners in order to build such relationships through timely completion, superior work and exceptional customer satisfaction.
To ensure that employee-owners are equipped to deliver on this iron-clad principle, we diligently invest in professional development through internal training and external education, continually building on the skill set and value of the company. This commitment to ongoing improvement and increasingly diverse capabilities ensures the performance level needed to keep up with the dynamic needs of the industry. The effectiveness of this commitment is underscored by the fact that repeat customers make up more than 75 percent of our business, which represents partnerships that have been in progress for more than 20 years.
An intense concern for the development, success and well-being of all Austin people and an unrelenting emphasis on performance… We’re committed to bringing out the best in ourselves and in one another. Shared values like open communication, a “can-do” spirit, personal accountability, participation and ownership create a climate of remarkably high standards for how well we do what we do. And, what we do is create value for ourselves and for others through exemplary performance. Exemplary performance means being the very best we can be in terms of lower cost, faster project completion, quality work, quick response to customer needs, safe operations and uncompromising integrity in everything we do. That’s the basis upon which we compete in the marketplace and is, therefore, the means by which we serve our customers, ourselves as Austin Industries’ owners, and the communities where we work and live.
