Payment Specialist
Under direct supervision, is responsible for processing and posting incoming payments, reconciling receipts and adjusting patient accounts
• Prepares money for deposit and audits accounts receivable reports to ensure accurate balance
• Follows standard procedures and pre-established guidelines to complete tasks
• Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards, and US Oncology’s Shared Values
Processes and posts patient and payer payments accurately and timely in accordance to company policies and the Practice’s standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Daily, reconciles cash receipts and petty cash funds to accounts receivable balance, explanation of benefits (EOB), and electronic remittance advices (ERA) and deposits cash to the bank
• Identifies payment variances and documents patient account as appropriate
• Updates patient and payer account balances
• Generates and mails patient account statements
• Researches and responds to routine account inquiries and takes appropriate action according to SOPs
• Escalates non-routine issues
• Maintains the strictest confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and state/federal regulations
• Performs other duties as requested or assigned
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum three (3) years pre-services coordinator or equivalent experience required
• Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required
• Working knowledge of state, federal, and third party claims processing required
• Must successfully complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying position
