Our History

Currently, Dolphin Fast Food owns and operates twenty-one Burger King Restaurants. Seventeen are in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro-area; Albertville, Blaine, Clearwater, Elk River, Forest Lake, Ham Lake, Hiawatha, Monticello, Plymouth, Ramsey, Richfield, Robert Street, Rogers, Roseville and Stillwater. There are four additional in the Rochester area; North Broadway, South Broadway, Kasson, 15th Ave Southeast.

  • 1979 Greg Dolphin entered the fast food business by becoming a financial partner in the Blaine Burger King.
  • 1984 In October, Greg Dolphin opened the Rogers Burger King as a full franchisee.
  • 1985 In September, the DFF purchased the Monticello Burger King from Burger King Corporation, and incorporated a new company, DFF, as the owner of the Rogers and Monticello restaurants.
  • 1986 In February, DFF opened the Elk River Burger King.
  • In April, a buyout of the operating partner in the Blaine Burger King occurred and this restaurant became part of DFF. DFF further expanded its operations in August, when it purchased the New Hope and Crystal Burger King restaurants from another franchisee.
  • 1987 In June, DFF began its international operations by entering into a development agreement with Burger King Corporation for development of restaurants in central Germany and takeover of a corporate restaurant in Mainz, Germany.
  • 1988 In March, DFF opened the Hiawatha Burger King.
  • 1989 In December, DFF closed the New Hope and Crystal Burger King restaurants.
  • 1990 In April, DFF expanded its international operations by opening the Darmstadt, Germany restaurant.
  • 1991 In February, DFF sold its German development rights to Burger King Corporation.
  • 1994 On March 8, DFF opened the Ham Lake Burger King.
  • 1995 On July 1, DFF opened the Forest Lake Burger King.
  • 1996 On May 30, the Rogers restaurant was forced to close due to rerouting of the Highway 101 Frontage Road, which now goes directly over the former site of the restaurant.
  • 1997 DFF acquired the Richfield and Stillwater Burger Kings.
  • 1998 On August 17, the new Rogers Burger King opened.
  • 1999 DFF relocated the Stillwater Burger King on January 7.
  • On August 4, the new Ramsey Burger King opened.
  • 2000 The Clearwater Burger King opened on August 1.
  • 2001 On August 1, the Albertville Burger King opened.
  • The Blaine Burger King was rebuilt and reopened in October.
  • 2002 On January 1, the Robert Street restaurant was acquired and opened under the ownership of DFF.
  • 2005 DFF acquired three Rochester-area Burger Kings in June and then acquired the Plymouth Burger King in August. The Lexington Burger King closed.
  • 2007 December 28th, DFF purchased the Roseville Burger King.
  • 2008 On December 2 the new Kasson Burger King opened.
  • 2011 July 12th, the Lexington restaurant opened.
  • 2012 January 1st, the Bloomington restaurant was acquired and opened under the ownership of DFF. September 3rd, the Richfield restaurant closed. October 1st, 2012, the Snelling restaurant was acquired and opened under the ownership of DFF.
