TRUMAN MEDICAL CENTERS - General Information

Truman Medical Centers is true community health in the Kansas City area. Our hospitals, care centers and clinics are located in all corners of Jackson County and offer comprehensive health care services to all - regardless of ability to pay.

TMC is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. Many Kansas City doctors in practice today were trained at TMC. In fact, 90-percent of Emergency Room physicians were trained at TMC-Hospital Hill!

3 major institutions make up the core of Truman Medical Centers: Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill, Truman Medical Center East and Truman Medical Center Behavioral Health Network.

Hospital Hill provides both acute care and a wide array of outpatient medical services. It is perhaps best known for its emergency and trauma services. TMC Hospital Hill has the busiest adult emergency room in the Kansas City metropolitan area with more than 50,000 visits a year. TMC Hospital Hill is also noted for The Eye Foundation, Sickle Cell, HIV-Aids, high risk-obstetrics, and women's health in helping to meet Kansas City's health care needs.

Primary Care, Family Practice and long-term care form the cornerstone of service at TMC East. With two family practice clinics---including one in a non-teaching environment ---more than 33,000 people receive their primary care at TMC East each year. And the numbers are growing. East is located in eastern Jackson County near Lee's Summit, one of the fastest growing areas in metro Kansas City. The Truman East Care Center provides long term care for seniors in a home-like environment.

TMC Behavioral Health Network rounds out TMC's network of care. TMC BHN, as its known, specializes in the treatment of serious and persistent mental illness and offers treatment for depression, manic depression, schizophrenia, post traumatic stress disorder, drug addictions, compulsions, attention deficit disorder, and attention deficit hyperactive disorder. Though it has a low hospitalization rate, Behavioral Health doctors have admitting privileges at TMC East, a cooperative relationship with Western Missouri Mental Health and referral privileges with Crittenton.

With its 21 outpatient clinics and health centers in schools and rural areas, TMC is able to offer quality health care---true community health---to all Kansas Citizens.
