Overview
Bridgeport Hospital was established in 1878 by a group of community leaders, including showman and Bridgeport Mayor P.T. Barnum, who became our first hospital president.

We are a private, not-for-profit, and the principal affiliate of Southern Connecticut Health System (SCHS) with Ahlbin Centers for Rehabilitation Medicine, United Visiting Nurse Association, NovaMed Corp, and the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation.

We are also a member of the Yale New Haven Health System with Yale-New Haven Hospital, Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and Greenwich Hospital, and managed care network participants Westerly (R.I.) Hospital and Norwalk Hospital.
Benefits
Bridgeport Hospital offers an attractive, competitive flexible benefits plan that allows employees to elect coverage to meet their needs. These benefits apply, with certain exceptions, to affiliate organizations. Enrollment Employees regularly scheduled to work 24 hours or more per week are eligible for benefits. Coverage begins the first of the month following 90 days. Eligible dependents include a spouse, and children up to age 19 or 20 if full time students. Coverage terminates at the end of the month when the child turns age 19 or 20 respectively. Costs and Credits Employees share a portion of their benefit costs through biweekly payroll deduction. Costs vary depending on the coverage elected, and are subject to change each year. Mary benefits are purchased with pre-tax dollars, then by reducing employee income tax costs. Employees covered under another health plan may waive health benefits and receive credits to purchase other benefits, cash back in their paychecks. Employees may also receive credits by participating in the Wellness Program and for long-term service. Changing Your Benefits Benefits elections remain in effect from January 1 through December 3. Elections can be changed each year during open enrollment, or in the event of certain life status change e.g., marriage/divorce or birth/adoption of a child. You must notify Human Resources within 30 days of the qualifying event. The Following Benefits Are Purchased With Pre-Tax Dollars Medical Plan Options: Administered by Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield YNHH Advantage Plus Plan: Provides in-network and out-of-network coverage. No referrals required to see in-network doctors or specialists. - Highest level of benefits when services are provided at a YNHH hospital. - In-network benefits 15 co pay office visits and 100% coverage for most services. No claim forms required. - Out-of-network benefits: 70% coverage for many services after $250 individual/$500 family deductible is met. YNHH Advantage Basic Plan: Provides reduced coverage in exchange for lower contributions, higher deductible and higher out-of-pocket maximums. - In-network benefits: $1,000 individual/$2,000 family deductible; 80% coverage for most services. - Out-of-network benefits: $1,000 individual/$2,000 family deductible; 60% coverage for most services. No Medical Plan: waive coverage and receive credits or cash back. Proof of other coverage required. Advance RX Prescription Plan Employees pay, per prescription, $5 for generic drugs, $15 for preferred brand drugs and $25 for other brand drugs at participating pharmacies (no coverage at out-of-network pharmacies). Up to 30-day supply provided. Mail order available for maintenance drugs at $10/$20/$40 co-pays for a 90-day supply. No Prescription Plan: Waive coverage and receive credits or cash back. Dental Plan Options Delta Dental Basic: Covers preventive & diagnostic services (e.g., exams, x-rays, cleanings) at 100%, no deductible. Covers basic services (e.g., fillings, extractions) at 80% with a $50 individual/$100 family deductible. $1,000 annual max/person. No claim forms required when Delta network dentists are used. Delta Dental Plus: Same coverage as Basic Plan, plus major restorative services (e.g., caps, crowns, bridgework, dentures) at 50% with a $25 individual/$50 family deductible. $1,500 annual max per person. Also covers orthodontics at 50% with a $1,500 lifetime max. No claim forms required when Delta network dentists are used. No Dental Plan: Waive coverage and receive credits or cash back. Vision Plan Reimburses up to $200 per person per year toward eye exams, glasses and contacts. In addition all employees receive Eye Care Plan of America membership at no cost. ECPA offers 20%-60% discounts on eyewear from approved providers. Group Term Life Insurance Life insurance and accidental Death & dismemberment insurance, each in the amount of 1x annual salary (up to $50,000 each) is provided at no cost. Flexible Spending Accounts Tax-free dollars may be sat aside to pay for qualifying health expense or dependent day care expenses. Under RS regulations, any unused funds in these accounts at year-end are forfeited. Health Care Spending Account: Up to $1,500 each year may be set aside to pay for child day care and other qualifying dependent day care expenses. The Following Benefits May Be Purchased On An After-Tax Basis. Supplement/Life Insurance Employees may purchase additional life insurance in amounts of 1, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 times annual salary. Costs vary base on income and age. Disability Insurance Provides an income to employees who are unable to work for an extended period due to illness or accident. Short Term Disability (STD): Employees who have completed one year of service may purchase STD coverage during the open enrollment following their anniversary date. Benefits replace 60% of salary after sick time has been exhausted and are paid for up to 5 months from date of disability. Long Term Disability (LTD): Benefits begin after 6 months disability and pay 60% of salary until able to work, or up to age 65 for total and permanent disability. Benefits are offset by payments from certain other sources including Social Security and Workers Comp. Physicians are covered by a different LTD plan – contact Human Resources for details. Other Benefits Bridgeport Hospital provides many other benefits that are not part of the flexible benefits plan, including voluntary insurance options, paid vacation and sick time, holidays, tuition reimbursement, credit union, retirement plan, and tax-sheltered annuity plans. Bridgeport Hospital, Ahlbin Centers for Rehabilitation Medicine and United Visiting Nurse Association provide more than 400,000 patient care visits annually, including 19,000 admissions, 146,000 total outpatient visits to the hospital (including 58,000 emergency department visits and 31,000 clinic visits), 10,000 outpatient rehabilitation visits, and 250,000 home care visits.
