Bridgeport Hospital was established in 1878 by a group of community leaders, including showman and Bridgeport Mayor P.T. Barnum, who became our first hospital president.

We are a private, not-for-profit, and the principal affiliate of Southern Connecticut Health System (SCHS) with Ahlbin Centers for Rehabilitation Medicine, United Visiting Nurse Association, NovaMed Corp, and the Bridgeport Hospital Foundation.

We are also a member of the Yale New Haven Health System with Yale-New Haven Hospital, Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital and Greenwich Hospital, and managed care network participants Westerly (R.I.) Hospital and Norwalk Hospital.
