Overview
In 1990, Drake Prometric developed a computerized examination for Novell, the first company to introduce Information Technology (IT) accreditation. The examinations were developed for Novell's then-revolutionary Certified Network Engineer (CNE) course. Sylvan purchased Prometric in 1997 from Drake to expand its presence in the academic and professional test development and test delivery business.

In October 2002, the first Prometric Client Summit brought together international thought leaders to share ideas and understand the latest developments and trends in testing and assessment. The Summit has become an annual event.

In October 2003, Prometric opened its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore to actively continue its business growth plan for Asia Pacific.

On August 16, 2004 Prometric acquired CapStar and its subsidiary businesses (Experior, Chauncey Group) from the Educational Testing Service (ETS). This gave Prometric a share of the paper and pencil testing market and strengthened its relationship with ETS.

In May 2005, Prometric's new European headquarters in London officially opened. Renovations that made the facility fully operational were completed in February 2006.

Today, Prometric is the testing partner for large and prestigious organizations such as ETS, the National Association of Securities Dealers, the Japanese Securities Dealers Association, the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
