Wellspring boldly promotes the recovery of persons who have a severe and persistent mental illness through leadership in the development of affordable housing and rehabilitative services. Located in Louisville, Kentucky, Wellspring was founded in 1982 through a collaborative effort led by parents, doctors and civic leaders concerned with the needs of persons with psychiatric disabilities.
Recognizing that all people are individuals, Wellspring’s recovery oriented programs begin with the understanding that each client has unique preferences, talents, skills and abilities, and that each person experiences the effects of illness differently. Our staff actively supports each person in his or her own individual process of building the capacity to choose and fulfill life goals, manage recovery and live a fulfilling life in the community.
Persons with mental illness are empowered through Wellspring’s healing opportunities such as support groups, life skills training, case management, expressive therapy and individual therapy sessions with our staff. Wellspring believes in the importance of teamwork and diversity in addressing the variety of issues that a client may be experiencing. Our team includes psychiatrists, licensed clinical social workers and art therapists, as well as recovering consumers in their role as peer support counselors. We recognize that both professional and paraprofessional staff bring value to the process of building recovery in the lives of our clients.
