Overview
Sandoz, a Novartis company, is a world leader in generic pharmaceuticals. The company develops, manufactures and markets these medicines as well as pharmaceutical and biotechnological active ingredients.
In 2005, Sandoz acquired Hexal, one of Germany’s leading generics company, and Eon Labs, one of the fastest-growing generic pharmaceuticals companies in the US. These acquisitions significantly strengthen the Sandoz technology base, particularly in the application of “difficult-to-make” generics: transdermal patches, inhalation products, sustained-release implants and multi-particulate drug-delivery dosage forms. Also expanded are the traditionally strong capabilities in pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals and anti-infectives.

The company is competitive with its leading presence in key markets, including the US and Germany, and a comprehensive product portfolio of more than 600 active ingredi-ents in more than 5,000 dosage forms. Combining the strengths of the companies, including the Sandoz global network, Hexal’s registration and development activities and Eon Labs’s performance in ANDA filings, the company aims to achieve significant product approvals annually from the global organization.

Sandoz reported generic pharmaceutical sales in 2005 were USD 4.7 billion. By now, the combined company employs more than 20,000 people in 110 countries. Its global headquarters are based in Holzkirchen, Germany, located just south of Munich.

Generic pharmaceuticals are the bioequivalent of an innovative, brand name product. This includes dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality, performance characteristics and intended use. Generics are held to the same strict standards as the innovator product, dictated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory agencies throughout the world. Although generic pharmaceuticals are chemically identical to their branded counterparts, they traditionally cost consumers less than the brand product.

The finished dosage forms are sold to wholesalers, pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare outlets. Our Anti-Infectives unit manufactures active pharmaceutical ingredients and their intermediates for internal requirements and industrial partners.

People
Our people build our success

Motivated employees are invaluable assets

A company's performance does not rely solely on top executives. It cannot be measured simply by annual reports or stock valuations. For us, success means that each and every employee contributes to expanding our pool of experience, each and every day.

More than 20,000 individuals are working worldwide under the joint umbrella brand name of Sandoz. A secretary's day to day life in Austria may not seem have much in common with that of a scientist's in India, and, yet, both are united by a common goal: to promote and preserve health across the world.

Not everything in life is simply a question of money. This is as true in health as it is true of our employees' continuing motivation and achievements. This is why we are continuously working on our company culture, promoting social responsibility, mutual respect and room for personal and professional growth.

To put it simply: a company that is at home in more than 120 countries must understand its business, but even more so, it must understand people.
Products
Over 500 different molecules are developed, manufactured and sold by Retail Generics. Our treatments cover the broadest collection of medicines, and our goal is to provide medication for treating all major therapeutic areas across the globe.

In the US and Europe we focus on preparations for treating the cardiovascular, central nervous and gastrointestinal systems, as well as anti-infectives, which are in high demand.
