We have been involved in the development of solar technologies in 1984 with the construction of the Solar Almeria Platform in Spain. The company supplied heliostats and glass facets and worked on the construction of the Cesa Tower. Later, in 1987, Abengoa supplied the facets for the heliostat field of the Weizmann Institute in Israel.
This initial work was undertaken by the Abengoa company, Inabensa as part of its construction department.
In the 1990's, a new department was created devoted to solar R&D projects. In 1983, Abengoa Solar IST (then Industrial Solar Technology) was founded by Ken May with the purpose of developing trough technology that was economically feasible for commercial and industrial applications.
Abengoa Solar is a company that is continually growing. To be ready and able to meet the challenges of the future, we need to recruit the best personnel in their fields; talented people who have a passion for solar energy, a good command of English, openness to new ideas and learning, and a willingness to work hard to make our dreams a reality.
We need professional personnel that are both experienced and entry-level with technical, administrative, financial and legal backgrounds.
Our manufacturing and installation departments need dedicated crafts and assembly personnel to build state-of-the-art solar systems.

The "World Solar Power Conference" was intended to be the world's premiere conference and meeting place for all those involved in the development of large-scale electricity-generating facilities based on Concentrated Solar Power and Concentrating Photovoltaic technologies.
The conference included individual scientists and engineers, research centers, project development organizations, construction and operating companies, electric utilities, public and financing entities.
Key aspects of these emerging industries were addressed during the conference, specifically:
The technologies that make the efficient transformation of solar radiation into electricity possible.
The legal frameworks needed to facilitate the development and financing of solar installations.
The strategic policies of countries and regions that support further use of CSP and CPV technologies.
The conference was held in the "Hospital de los Venerables", in Seville. Seville is the global headquarters of the Focus-Abengoa Foundation. Industry executives, senior government officials and leading industry experts were in attendance.
In addition to the conference, attendees had the opportunity to visit the Solar Platform being constructed by Abengoa Solar at the nearby municipality of Sanlucar la Mayor, Seville. This Solar Platform is a world-class reference site for CSP technologies.
Abengoa Solar Power is a division of Abengoa Solar in the US. It primarily functions to promote and install CSP plants, often including thermal storage. The current focus in on the use of trough technology, but towers could be deployed in the future. The addition of storage to solar CSP systems allows them to deliver electricity in response to customer needs, long after the sun has gone down. Integrating CSP technology with combined cycle plants is another means of delivering firm power.

"El Árbol de Abengoa" (Abengoa's Tree) in cooperation with the Fundación Doñana
Abengoa Solar is commited to environmental improvement and supports activities fostering this goal. It has donated 30,000 Euros to the Fundacion Donana for the development of a pilot reneable energy project called Solar Forest.
The Solar Forest project is a solar PV project, in which each PV unit is a figurative "tree" Abengoa Solar sponsors a tree, which will be customized with the company name becoming "The Abengoa Solar Tree."
Income gained from the sale of electricity from the Abengoa Solar Tree will be donated to an environmental education program about sustainable energy for the children of Comaraca de Donana. The educational program will take place in the Dunar de Donana Park.
Community Commitment
Agreements with City Councils
