Just Energy is a natural gas and electricity energy supplier committed to stabilizing consumers’ energy costs.
Just Energy is part of the Energy Savings Group and one of the largest energy suppliers in North America.
Just Energy provides residential and business customers with Natural Gas and Electricity Price Protection programs that eliminate their exposure to fluctuating energy prices.
Price Protection Programs
Just Energy offers 4 or 5 year price protected agreements so customers don’t have to worry about rising energy costs. We provide:
- The peace of mind of knowing that your supply price will never increase throughout the term of your agreement.
- The ability to budget your energy costs more effectively through a protected supply price.
- The potential for savings. If utility rates go above the protected price, customers may save money.
- Protected prices are important for people on fixed incomes or small businesses, providing protection against the ups and downs of volatile energy prices.
Just Energy currently offers customers a four or five year Price Protected Rate for natural gas and electricity. This allows customers to stabilize their supply rates and helps them to minimize their exposure to the energy marketplace. Customers will continue to receive one bill from Con Edison and the delivery and service of their natural gas and electricity (from Con Edison) will remain the same.
In 1996, New York began to deregulate the energy industry with the goal of introducing competition and lowering energy prices for business and residential customers. Prior to 1996, electric and gas consumers purchased utility services from their local utilities which were regulated by the New York Public Service Commission.
Early Stages of Deregulation
On March 14, 1996, the New York Public Service Commission (PSC) approved plans to allow residential, small business, commercial, and industrial customers to start buying their own natural gas supply from sources other than their local utilities.
Energy Service Companies, called ESCOs, could register with the PSC to aggregate the purchasing power of many clients, making it possible for even the smallest customers to participate.
The State of New York deregulated their electricity market place in June of 1998. The Public Service Commission (PSC), initiated deregulation in New York City with a introductory program designed to encourage customers to buy up to 500,000 megawatts of electricity from independent sources.
Deregulation Today
As of today, New York State has seen over 7 billion dollars in rate savings since 1996. Currently there are over 55 ESCO’s providing electricity and natural gas retail products to customers in New York.
As of December 2004, the following customer percentages are currently registered with an ESCO:
46% of large commercial/industrial customers;
13% of small commercial customers and
5% of residential customers.
