Overview
Mercy HealthCare
Foundation is a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing support to Mercy Hospital with supplemental funding for capital and program needs essential to the hospital's growth and development. The foundation is responsible for programs such as Sack'Em and the Festival of Trees. New in 2002 will be a 'Great Dinner' event.
The "For
Mercy's
Sake Sack'Em" program is one of our annual fundraisers. People pledge an amount for each sack made by the Valley City State Viking's and the Valley City High School Hi-Liner's quarterbacks. All funds raised go toward the recruitment of physicians and nurses. It is a time-consuming and expensive task to recruit medical staff, however it is vital to sustaining the quality of healthcare in Valley City and the surrounding area.
The "Festival of Trees" takes place the weekend after Thanksgiving. It is an elegant evening of twinkling Christmas lights and gorgeous Christmas trees. An extensive hors d'oeuvres buffet is served. There is a silent auction of many donated items. The evening centers on a live auction of at least ten fully decorated Christmas Trees, some wreaths and a travel package of some sort. This evening is done completely by volunteers and raises money for The Children's HealthCare Fund. This fund is specifically used to help children, only in our area, who need aid with their healthcare. We have made some major differences in many children's lives.
In July , Security State Bank of North Dakota along with KOVC and Miller Motors sponsor the annual Charity Golf Tournament with Mercy Healthcare Foundation being the recipient. It's a 5 person scramble with great prizes, great food and a great time!
We also have an Annual Fund Drive in the summer. We hope to be offering many ways of giving to Mercy HealthCare Foundation. Community support is so important to the health of the hospital.
Don't forget that you can send a gift in memory of a loved one to Mercy HealthCare Foundation. Click here for printable form!

Services
One of the most common types of mistakes in health care has to do with medication errors – when patients take too many, too few, or the wrong medication. Medication errors can be very serious and lead to serious complications, admission to the hospital and in the most extreme case, even death. Medication errors may occur outside the hospital when patients don’t follow instructions for taking their medication or inside the hospital when information doesn’t get relayed accurately. The good news is that patients and family members can help prevent many of these medication errors.
Medication errors often occur at “transition points,” such as when patients enter the hospital, move from one facility to another, or leave the hospital to go home. Another time that is prone to errors is anytime medications are started or stopped. A new national initiative to reduce errors at these transition points is occurring in most health care organizations. “Medication Reconciliation” is this process. A patient’s home medication list is reviewed and compared to what the physician has ordered. This will eventually occur in all patient care settings, whether inpatient, outpatient, emergency, long term care, or home care.
