ThyssenKrupp boasts a strong and lasting presence in North America, particularly in the United States. Its operations can be found in every state in the U.S. There are 70 ThyssenKrupp companies in the U.S., accounting for 24,000 employees and annual sales of $9.5 billion.
ThyssenKrupp Steel USA, LLC and ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA, LLC are developing a $3.7 billion state-of-the-art carbon and stainless steel manufacturing and processing facility in Alabama.
ThyssenKrupp Steel and Stainless USA, LLC was created to oversee the development of the new facilities, which are a cooperative effort of ThyssenKrupp Steel and ThyssenKrupp Stainless, both based in Duisburg, Germany. The advanced technology plant is under construction in Calvert, Alabama in Mobile County.
The Alabama project is a cornerstone of ThyssenKrupp Steel’s NAFTA strategy and an integral part of its overall global market strategy. The new facility will include a hot strip mill which will be used primarily to process slabs from the company’s new steel mill in Brazil. It will also feature cold rolling and hot-dip coating capacity for high-quality end products of flat carbon steel. The facility will have an annual capacity of 4.1 million metric tons of carbon steel end products.

Carbon Steel is a high-tech material with a great future. Like no other comparable material it can be recycled without quality loss an infinate number of times, making a significant contribution to resource conservation. But, above all, steel is a material with extraordinary potential for innovation. Steel is also a dynamic material, as shown by the fact that more than half the steels in the ThyssenKrupp product mix were developed in the past 10 years.
From food cans and electronic motors, earthmoving machinery and dumpster trucks to household appliances and construction elements, many everyday items would not be possible without steel.
In fiscal 2005/2006, ThyssenKrupp Steel produced 13.8 million metric tons of flat-rolled carbon steel, making it Germany's leading producer in No. 2 in Europe. Its product portfolio includes hot strip, cold strip, coated products, electrical steel and heavy plate in a broad spectrum of grades.
The range of steel grades extends from drawing, deep drawing and special deep drawing grades to high-strength grades through multiphase steels with extremely high tensile strength and non grain oriented electrical steel.
Rising demand for corrosion resistant steels is met by ThyssenKrupp Steel with a wide range of coated products. Hot dip galvanized, hot dip aluminized, GALFAN and GALVALUME coated, electolytically galvanized as well as zinc-nickel coated strip and sheet are produced at modern state-of-the-art facilities. A wide range of grades and sizes is available.
ThyssenKrupp Steel is a leader in technology and innovation. Its NewSteelBody is an outstanding feat of engineering that reduces fuel consumption and demonstrates the enourmous potential of steel in automotive applications. Although it is 24 percent lighter than a current production chassis, it provides the same or better rigidity and crashworthiness at comparable cost thanks to an intelligent combination of modern materials, high tech design and sophisticated production techniques.
ThyssenKrupp Steel, a world market leader in laser welded blanks, produces these customized steel blanks for specialized automotive applications.
