Charlotte, NC -- June 28, 2006 - Babson Capital Management LLC ("Babson Capital"), an investment management firm based in Boston and Springfield, Mass., today announced the closing of a $575 million collateralized loan obligation (CLO) vehicle, which is a securitized pool of non-investment-grade corporate loans.
At $575 million, Babson CLO 2006-I, Ltd. is one of the larger funds to be offered in recent months and was upsized from $500 million.
"We are very pleased with investors' interest in this most recent Babson Capital CLO transaction," said Thomas M. Finke, Managing Director and head of the firm's U.S. Bank Loan Team. "We believe that CLOs remain an attractive option for investors seeking exposure to the leveraged loan market."
The weighted average cost of the debt for the transaction was LIBOR plus 38.2, with the BBB and BB tranches pricing at historical lows of LIBOR plus 150 and 375, respectively. A portion of the CLO – $150 million – was structured as a delayed draw tranche, priced at LIBOR plus 26 basis points. This feature allows for more efficient cash management.
Morgan Stanley arranged the transaction. Buyers included a wide range of U.S. and non-U.S. institutional investors.
