News
ASHEVILLE, N.C., May 5, 2006 – Dr. Don V. Jackson Jr. of Cancer Centers of North Carolina – Asheville, formerly
Asheville Hematology Oncology,
was recently named to Best Doctors Inc.’s annual list of best doctors practicing in the U.S. The annual survey asks doctors whom they would select to treat themselves or their families.
Business North Carolina, a monthly business magazine based in Charlotte, publishes the North Carolina-based honorees each year in its July issue. This is the fourth consecutive year that Dr. Jackson has been named to the list.
According to Business North Carolina, some 30,000 doctors nationwide made the cut. About 4 percent of the 20,000 who practice in North Carolina made the list.
Dr. Jackson earned his doctorate from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He completed his internship at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and his residency in medicine at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital where he was chief resident. His fellowship in hematology-oncology was at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, and he is board certified in internal medicine with subspecialties in both oncology and hematology. Dr. Jackson began his oncology career as a staff investigator in clinical pharmacology at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md.
Dr. Jackson served as an associate professor of medicine at Bowman Gray until 1989, when he went into private practice in Asheville. At Memorial Mission Hospital he has chaired the Transfusion and Procedure Committee, the Cancer Committee and the Bioethics Committee. He has also chaired numerous steering committees for clinical cancer symposia.
