HUNDREDS of drivers were caught up in tailbacks on Tuesday because of the A338 roadworks and an accident on an alternative rate.
Congestion caused by the work on the Bournemouth Spur Road has sparked lengthy hold-ups for drivers battling to get to get to and from work.
And the problem was exacerbated after a collision forced the closure of the bridge over the Spur Road at Matchams.
advertisementMotorists reported journey times of as much as a hour between the Ashley Heath roundabout and the Cooper Dean junction, a trip usually taking little more than 10 minutes.
And the chaos spilled over onto nearby roads such as Castle Lane East, where traffic was at a standstill for around 20 minutes during the morning rush hour.
