Overview
The Democrat and Chronicle, located at 55 Exchange Blvd., Rochester, NY 14614, is the hometown newspaper of Rochester, New York. It is distributed in the morning, seven days a week.
The Democrat and Chronicle began as a weekly publication called the The Balance in 1833. After several changes in name and ownership, the paper became known as the Daily Democrat. In 1870, it combined with the two-year-old Chronicle to become the Democrat and Chronicle.
In 1928, the first edition of the Democrat and Chronicle under the ownership of Gannett Co. Inc. and Frank Gannett was published.
The newspaper's editorial facility at 55 Exchange Blvd. opened in 1928. It is built over a railroad extension that once facilitated the delivery of newsprint.
The newspaper opened a new state-of-the-art production facility at Canal Ponds office park in Greece, N.Y., in June, 1997. The Democrat and Chronicle continues to contribute regularly to the Rochester-area community.
