OUR MOST VALUABLE ASSET
Our employees range in age from 16 all the way to 60. For many, their first job is at SONIC, and this is great! It gives us the opportunity to teach these teenagers good work habits from the start - so we aren’t fighting any bad habits from previous jobs. We have also employed people who are close to retirement age looking to fill their time in the mornings doing prep or helping with other duties.
We employ people with wide variety of educational background and experience. For many, SONIC began as a part time job while going through school. After a few years, they found they had a real knack for our business, and are now making a much better living as a member of one of our management teams than their counterparts in office jobs!
Many of our locations are in small Arizona towns scattered throughout the state. These towns range in size from as little as 5,000 in Eagar and Winslow, to as many 50,000 in Flagstaff and Kingman. Because of this, our restaurants really become a part of the communities that they are in. It is very typical for our drive-ins to be the local “hang-out” after high school athletic events or on holidays. Many of our restaurants coordinate with local schools and city governments to hold fund raisers on our lots as well.
SONIC, which specializes in made-to-order fast food, is known for its specialty menu items and personal Carhop service. Unique menu items include Toaster® Sandwiches (hamburgers and sandwiches served on thick Texas Toast), Extra-Long Cheese Coneys (hot dogs with chili and cheese), fresh hamburgers, fresh-made Onion Rings, Tater Tots and a variety of Frozen and Fountain Favorites® such as Cream Pie Shakes and Cherry Limeades. SONIC is the nation's largest chain of drive-in fast-food restaurants with drive-ins located from coast-to-coast.
In the 1950s, SONIC's unique use of curbside speakers to allow customers to place food orders without ever leaving their cars, spawned the slogan "SONIC, Service with the Speed of Sound." In recent years, that slogan has been replaced with "SONIC, America's Drive-In." SONIC was founded by Troy Smith and was originally named Top Hat Drive-In, the name was changed to SONIC in 1959.
In addition to having the highest customer frequency rate in the hamburger segment of the quick service restaurant industry, SONIC's honor roll of achievements also includes the following national recognitions:
