Guckenheimer is private— owned 93% by its employees. There is proprietary “ownership” in the quality of our food and service. We are a “family”— and we include our clients in our family. We feel compelled to respond to our clients’ needs in the most expedient and favorable manner. Time is always of the essence and “yes” is the answer. Our founder, Dr. Stewart Ritchie, started selling extraordinary sandwiches in the Stanford Medical School courtyard. That was 1963!
He and his wife, Jeanie Ritchie, were immediately rewarded by enthusiastic customers, preferring great taste and personalized service to the institutionalized fare in the hospital cafeteria. The early support of their clients, coupled with high expectations, created the commitment to exceptional quality that continues in Guckenheimer of the twenty-first century!
THE VISION
Doing a common thing… work place dining… so uncommonly well that clients are in lasting awe of our food skills and service ethic. Our retention of the best employees and the best clients for years and years in a triumph of creativity, worker capitalism and pride of accomplishment, has earned Guckenheimer’s reputation as the “best company in our industry”.
C. STEWART RITCHIE III, M.D. Founder, Chief Executive Officer
Our culture is rooted in our people ... our ‘family’ and customers, whom we cherish, appreciate, and are proud to serve. We have continually, over 33 plus years, celebrated and recognized our employee’s success through awards and skills-training for advancement. We are a “people company”, which just happens to be in the business of excellent food service. Heartpower and extra effort define our culture; customer-friendly service, safety, sanitation and creativity are our hallmarks.
JEANIE RITCHIE, Co-Founder, Chairman, Chief Administrative Officer

It signifies yet another step forward in our development and our continuing commitment to the principles of Guckenheimer: the highest quality food and service possible.
