Shopko was founded by a pharmacist, James Ruben in 1962. When Ruben opened Shopko’s first store in Green Bay, he envisioned a company focused on three main themes: quality, convenience and value. He saw the opportunity to combine health care services with a large discount store, and Shopko became one of the first mass retailers to feature pharmacies and eye care centers in its stores.
