Overview
The history of Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services is rooted in the tragic death in 1921 of 7-year-old Dorothy Love and the generosity and perseverance of West Central Ohioans who knew and loved her.
Dorothy, the daughter of Reverend and Mrs. Blake Love, minister of Sidney Presbyterian Church was fatally injured when an auto struck her. Shortly after her death, Moses Russell and his sisters, donated the 294-acre tract about two miles north of Sidney which would become the site of Dorothy Love Retirement Community.

The history of Ohio Presbyterian Homes (now OPRS) was synonymous with the history of Dorothy Love until 1947 when Park Vista was dedicated. Since then, the corporate history is reflected in the stories of each of the communities. You can receive a copy of the history of the organization by clicking here.

Originally, the communities were owned by the Synod of Ohio and supported solely by contributions from the Presbyterian Churches. In 1973, Ohio Presbyterian Homes reincorporated as a not-for-profit, interdenominational corporation. Then in 1981, the Articles of Incorporation were revised to remove any control or liability of Ohio Presbyterian Homes from the Ohio Synod and United Presbyterian Church of the USA.

Today, Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services is governed by a board of directors that includes representatives from the retirement communities, the Synod of the Covenant, and the community-at-large.
