The initiative of Medix was sparked in 1999 when President and CEO Andrew Limouris generated a business plan for a staffing company during his employment at a healthcare software firm. After the tragedy of September 11, 2001 ushered in an economic recession, many citizens across the nation, including Limouris, were left without jobs. Limouris decided to revisit his old business plan and lease a small executive office space in Oakbrook, Illinois. With the investment assistance of Chairman Louis Apostolou, Medix Staffing Solutions, Inc. was born.

Limouris enlisted Chris Sioukas and Phil Apostolou as business partners to help him develop the company. After its first year in business, Medix comprised a total of six employees. Since then, Medix's dedication to placement excellence has resulted in remarkable growth. The company experienced a nearly 1300% growth in the last five years, earning it a spot on Crain’s Chicago Business' "Fast Fifty" list of the Chicago area's fastest-growing businesses. Out of the 300,000 companies in the Chicago metro area, Medix placed 7th on the list.
