MAXIMUS Introduces the CRIS Short Form Solution to Enable All
Institutions to Automate the F&A Rate Calculation Process
7/12/08- At the NACUBO Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL, MAXIMUS (NYSE: MMS), a
nationally recognized leader in consulting services and software for educational institutions
in the area of Research and Sponsored Projects Administration, announced the introduction
of its highly-anticipated CRIS Short Form Solution. This new solution promises to bring the
expertise MAXIMUS has long established with large institutions to smaller clients who need
only complete the Short Form Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Rate Proposal. The Short
Form (simplified method) truncates the identification, assignment, determination and
application of cost rates applied to work that does not exceed $10 million in a single fiscal
year.
The original Comprehensive Rate Information System (CRIS) was first introduced in 1988
and has been updated annually to reflect both the needs of institutional clients and changes
to OMB Circular A-21, “Cost Principles for Educational Institutions.” CRIS is the only
system on the market that fully automates the entire Facilities and Administrative (F&A) rate
calculation process. CRIS is the result of years of experience working with numerous
academic research institutions. Over 130 educational institutions currently use the original
CRIS solution to prepare their F&A rate proposals.
Like the established Long Form, the CRIS Short Form maintains rate calculation in a
single, self-contained system incorporated with the university’s source data files.
Changes made to one module are updated throughout the system automatically. Modified
Total Direct Cost (MTDC) and salary & wage rates can be calculated simultaneously.
The solution allows multiple cost groups, automates building and equipment
depreciation, includes over 100 pre-formatted reports as well as ad-hoc reports, conducts
“what-if” analysis, and can perform the entire system run in just five minutes. The CRIS
Short Form is fully compliant with federal regulations and is continually upgraded to
respond to changes in the A-21 Circular, technology advances and feedback from end-users.
“MAXIMUS has always prided itself on delivering advanced solutions that enable
institutions to successfully navigate the complex F&A rate calculation process. The CRIS
Short Form Solution enables us to better assist small to medium-sized colleges in this
important endeavor and is continually modified to ensure it meets the needs of the client,”
said Higher Education Practice Director Adrienne Cummings.
The CRIS Short Form Solution includes a variety of value-add services including four days
of interactive, on-site training; a comprehensive oversight and diagnostic review that
identifies areas of opportunity and areas of risk; practice or base year rate preparation;
assistance during rate negotiations; and an annual CRIS users group meeting.
"The Higher Education Practice is very excited about our new products which will offer our
services to universities for the preparation of their Short Form Facilities & Administrative
Rate Proposals. We now have a software solution which will yield benefits to educational
